Dove rightPraise God in all circumstances!

New Year’s Day for many was filled with joy, happiness, celebrations and New Year resolutions. Families gathered around the world welcoming in 2015. My day started in this fashion, full of joy.  However, it suddenly changed that evening into misery after a nasty accident with a kitchen knife which left my right hand little finger almost amputated! The important lesson and ‘new’ New Year resolution I learnt over the next few days, I’d like to share with you

The cut was severe; the tendons and the nerve were severed and an immediate trip to Norfolk and Norwich plastic surgery department was required. Many thanks to friends and family for the support and help that you gave, I was truly blessed by your help. The emergency team was equally excellent

Three days after the surgery I was required to return to the hand specialist department for follow-up treatment. I was down and depressed about the entire affair and found myself complaining continually about the discomfort that I was in and the growing struggle I was having in dealing with normal everyday tasks, using my left hand!

dove leftWhilst sitting in the waiting room, I struck a conversation with a gentleman and continued to poor out my heart in explaining the difficulties I was having, he sat quietly and listened, smiled and later said with great emphasis “I’m sure it will all be ok!” The words he said were very encouraging! It suddenly dawned on me that I had been so wrapped up in my own injury that I hadn’t asked the gentleman why he was there. To my utter shock, he showed me the scar across his entire hand and told me with a smile that 3 years ago he had accidentally amputated his entire hand and was still undergoing physiotherapy

How pathetic did my injury then look compared to this gentleman’s? How suddenly I realised that I should count my blessing rather than dwell on my problems. The lesson I learnt that morning brought about a sudden ‘new’ News Years resolution and I invite you to make it your own as well; ‘Praise God in all circumstances!’ taken from a culmination of the well known passage of scripture 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus”
