“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ
(1 Thessalonians 5 v 16-18)

UPD 1 06-2017With only two weeks in the school last month, we wanted to make the most of every minute with the pupils before the end of term. There were some more encouraging conversations about prayers and God; Deanna - the pupil who asked Ali to pray about her exams - had the result and achieved a score of 29 as opposed to the 2 she got in the previous test. (PD November 2017). She was very honest about not doing as much revision as she should but still has some way to go to believe in God, although that group of Year 10 girls are certainly thinking about Him more. They just can’t see why/how He could love them! Please pray that they will have the courage to take Him seriously and find out more

We lent a hand with the Christmas Talent Show put on by the Year 11 music students for the pupils who wanted to perform a song, dance or some other hidden talent! Not having a Glitterball event this year meant that our trimmings were ready and available for the school, so after lunch on the last Tuesday of the term Lorraine and Ali helped transform the dinner hall with fairy lights, glitter and tinsel, creating a truly festive atmosphere for those young people who were brave enough to perform in front of their peers. The Head of music was extremely grateful and has asked us to help with a similar event next term

ARMCHAIR
At Theos, Lorraine compiled a Christmas quiz for the young people and it was interesting to see how much they knew just from watching secular films about Christmas. However, this gave them the opportunity to see for themselves where the Bible tells us of Jesus’ birth as they raced to find the scripture first. We would be absolutely overjoyed if one of the girls came to know Jesus as her Saviour and King, and that will only happen when Holy Spirit reveals Himself to them. If you would like to be a prayer warrior for either of the two girls (Kevin already has someone praying for him), please let Ali or Lorraine know and we will be in touch

SENSESTANCE 12-2017
Instead of our annual Glitterball event this year, we opted for a gig with The Sense and Stance to treat the young people to a Christmas extravaganza!

Aoife delivered an impeccable message of God’s love for us, how broken we are but what a loving Saviour we have, who wants a relationship with us. At the end as she invited the 16 young people to pray with her, 8 of them put their hands up to say they had prayed with her. Please pray that they will be brave enough to follow up what they heard and experienced in that place. Thank God for all the volunteers and for those who hosted the team and fed them whilst they were here

One of the girls who put her hand up was the Year 10 pupil Ali saw in the Remembrance Day parade and had the privilege of praying with at the café when her granddad was ill. This girl is now asking some really deep questions and wants to know so much. We have given her a Bible and we are looking forward to meeting up with her after Christmas to disciple her and encourage her in her walk with Jesus

youth cafe 2017

  YOUTH CAFE 12-2017At the Youth Café we had a birthday party for Jesus with Dodgeball, Benchball, and other games to burn off some energy before the 34 young people sat and ate food, heard from Ali about why Jesus came to live a perfect life before dying for us. If you can make drinks and toast but young people scare you witless, don’t let that put you off – that’s where most of us started! As our newest volunteer said after her taster session “They’re so polite! I didn’t think they’d be such nice kids”

Let us know if you just want to come for a “taster” with no commitment. You can stay in the kitchen making drinks or toast if you like – if that’s where you’re more comfortable

GY STREET

 Thank you to those who have offered temporary help for our premises quandary. We are still not convinced of the property that God wants us to work from so please continue to pray for His will to be made clear in this and for the process to go smoothly and to His timescale. For those who don’t know the situation: we have had the privilege of renting Christchurch House (52 Deneside) from Christchurch Methodists for the last 8 years. However, sadly, the church is facing financial pressures which can only be relieved by selling Christchurch House. Therefore, we will not have any office space or storage for all our technical equipment, resources, tents and Newday camping equipment etc. We are extremely grateful for the relationship we have enjoyed as tenants of our Christchurch family and will be very sad to be without this blessing, but we’re excited for yet another “new thing” the Lord is going to give us for this season. Let’s praise Him too for His provision in everything we’ve needed over the years. We would ideally like the two things in the same building but could manage if we had to have office space and storage separately. Please pray the God will provide the place He wants us to be and if you have any suggestions, please get in touch asap

ARMOUR OF GOD
Thank you for your prayers for Stand. We finished the term with a bowling trip and sadly Ali couldn’t maintain her winning start! Sam won although there wasn’t much in it. Please pray that Livvy, Sam, Seyi, and Julyan will come back, after Christmas, full of energy and inspired to grow more in Jesus

PARK BAPTISTFor the last two months we have had the pleasure of partnering with Park Baptist Church to encourage our young people to eat healthily as well as having a discussion around issues they’re struggling with or unsure of. We meet after Theos at Chatterteria Café or Park Baptist Church and the young people cook a healthy meal which we then all eat together, chatting and praying about different things

Please join with us in praising God for the finances that come in every month. We are always grateful to those who contribute to keep this work going and especially as we are now paying an employees wages. Thank Him for His provision and pray that this will build as we look to change premises and also develop the work in the New Year

People often ask us “What does Unite actually DO?” If you’re not sure and would like us to visit your church (a service or PCC meeting or something else) to update you in person about the work of Unite, please get in touch, we’d love to come and meet you

Prayer Diary for December 2017

“Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you;
He is the Messiah, the Lord” (Luke 2 v 11)

As the term draws to a close this month we thank God for all the opportunities   He has given us to bring heaven to earth in Gt Yarmouth.
 From Charter Academy to Theos in Costa, Youth Café, Chatterteria and Stand   we are really privileged to be able to talk about Jesus and listen to the young   people of the town.
 Supported and encouraged by your prayers, money and time we have been buoyed up this term by God’s provision. We have wanted to pray in the school for a few months and have been trying to decide when and how we should do this. With a bit of support and some nudging from one of the Christian teachers, we are now getting into the school early to pray before we go into the dinner hall on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This has, we believe, given us an opening to pray with that member of staff about a difficult situation she faced earlier in the day plus an opportunity to work together with the music department on their talent show at the end of the term; we’ve met with some of the Year 11s and are lending them our Christmas decorations from previous Glitterball events and will be helping to set up and pack down the event. This new contact with the head of music has led to some promising discussions about having The Sense back in school next year! One of the conversations over the dinner table with some of the Year 10 girls was about what God eats. When Ali told them, He doesn’t have a body, they were gob-smacked. They thought of Him as a cartoon character, like a cross between Father Christmas and Neptune from Disney films! It was an absolute joy to see the penny drop as Ali told them that not everything that exists has a physical form; air, electricity, gas etc, after all, how can God be everywhere if He has a physical body? Please pray for them to have open minds to seek Him.
One of the pupils in Year 10 asked Ali, at dinner one day, if she would go to the Remembrance Day parade in Gt Yarmouth to watch her lay a wreath for the army cadet corps. She was really surprised to see Ali there and even more so when she realised that Ali went solely because she had asked her to go. Please pray that this pupil will realise that this is just a tiny indication of the love Jesus has for her, and the lengths that He went to, to have her in His family.

Please pray for us on Tuesdays after school as we meet   with three of the young people at Theos. One of the lads is   very keen (Kevin) and takes in a lot of information about   what we’re studying but the girls are much less interested   and are very distracting, with little concentration, so it can   be quite a strain to have a relevant and worthwhile   conversation with them. Please pray for patience for   Lorraine and Ali as they continue to disciple Kevin; that   they will be assured of the value of the smallest seed being   planted in the young peoples’ hearts. We would be absolutely overjoyed if one of the girls came to know Jesus as her Saviour and King, and that will only happen when Holy Spirit reveals Himself to them. If you would like to be a prayer warrior for either of the two girls (Kevin already has someone praying for him), please let Ali or Lorraine know and we will be in touch.

We are really excited to announce that The Sense band and Stance group will  be performing at Christchurch Methodist Church on Friday 8th December from 7.30-9.30pm as a Christmas celebration for young people to bring their friends to. This is a great opportunity to hear some high quality, Christian music with a clear gospel message and an invitation for those young people to respond, for those in high school years 7-11.
The team is made up of 10 people this year and we are excited about what God is going to do through them.
Please would you join us in praying (either at home during the event or with others in a room at Christchurch during the event) or can support financially please get in touch so we can bless the young people of the borough of Gt Yarmouth together?

At the Youth Café the new team of volunteers are gelling really well and getting to know the young people. Amilcar had the joy of using the “story cubes” to tell the gospel story to a group of lads last month.
Ali had the privilege of praying with a Year 10 girl for healing for her Granddad. The atmosphere is great at the moment and just last week Louise was able to talk to the whole group for a few minutes about her up coming mission trip to Thailand where she will be interacting with the locals; both humans and elephants! The young people came up with some great questions, including “Can I come with you?.
If you can make drinks and toast but young people scare you witless, don’t let that put you off – that’s where most of us started! As our newest volunteer said after her taster session “They’re so polite! I didn’t think they’d be such nice kids”. Let us know if you just want to come for a “taster” with no commitment. You can stay in the kitchen making drinks or toast if you like – if that’s where you’re more comfortable.

We will be fasting and praying together as Trustees on Friday 1st December regarding the new premises God has in store for us. Please would you join us wherever you are on that day?
We have had the privilege of renting Christchurch House (52 Deneside) from Christchurch Methodists for the last 8 years. However, sadly the church is facing financial pressures which can only be relieved by selling Christchurch House. We would ideally like the two things in the same building but could manage if we had to have office space and storage separately. Please pray the God will provide the place He wants us to be and if you have any suggestions, please get in touch asap. Thank you to everyone who has offered to help.

Thank you for your prayers for Stand. As we finish the series on prayer please pray that the young people will have a closer relationship with God as they learn how to communicate with Him and how to hear His voice.

We are still prayer walking around the town every other Tuesday, starting outside McDonald’s. If you wish to join us please meet here at 7.30pm for about an hour on Tuesday 5th December

For the last two months we have had the pleasure of partnering with Park Baptist Church in an initiative to encourage their young people to eat healthily as well as having a healthy discussion around issues they’re struggling with or unsure of.
