good friday march 2018bChristians from Gorleston’s churches took part in the annual march of witness which this year took a route around the Magdalen area of town, including Church Lane and Middleton Road

Fine weather encouraged a large number to join the Good Friday event with several volunteers carrying the wooden cross along a route organised by the Rev Matthew Price who became minister of St Mary Magdalene Church in January

The march began at Magdalen Square where the first of four short services too place with Bible readings and prayers.  Hymns were also included led by Cliff Park Community Church worship leader Lester Bullen on guitar.  The other stops were opposite the old cemetery; at the junction of Baliol Road and finally outside Peterhouse Church of England school

The march was followed by a service at St Mary Magdalene led by the Rev Price and the church worship band with extra musicians from the Methodist, Cliff Park Community, and Kingsgate churches

St Mary Magdalene was also the venue for local churches to join together for the Maundy Thursday service at which Cliff Park minister the Rev Mike Simm was the preacher.  At both services the seating was totally reorganised for the first time in the church’s history with the altar in the centre of the building and the congregation on pews arranged around it

Matthew Price explained the church had been carpeted in the autumn which meant the pews were no longer fixed to the floor providing an opportunity to change the layout for the special Easter services

On Easter Sunday the service was led by the Bishop of Thetford, the Rt Rev Alan Winton
