GYHS 07-2018

Thank you so much for your prayers for a great ending to the academic year, our 5th year in this great school and we’re pleased to report that everyone made it through this month; the exam season and the teachers fundraising with an ice bucket challenge, the excitement and woes of the World Cup, Wimbledon less Andy Murray, the school prom and the final Wednesday Youth Café

We continue to pray for Lewis and Jane and the other staff and pupils with whom we have journeyed this year, for the building work going on in the school over the summer and for the changes in staff; promotions, staff leaving for other Inspiration Academies, staff joining from September, for the new timetable which will see the school day extended by an hour on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, changing our timetable of clubs and after school activities and for protection of Holy Spirit for the young people over the summer

LORRAINE 08-2018ALORRAINE 08-2018B
Lorraine also made it through her sponsored cycle ride in Italy. Although she was shattered, she was exhilarated with God’s scenery and the chance to meet new people and have the comradery of family as they climbed peaks and whizzed down the hills.  She made it in just over 8 hours, injury free, raising £981.20 towards the work of Youth for Christ in Great Yarmouth. What a brilliant achievement! Thank you to all those who sponsored her

WEC 08-2018AWe just need one more burst of energy before we take some much needed time off. Tomorrow (Saturday 28th July) we will be travelling by minibus to the north Norfolk coast where two teams of amazing volunteers have spent the last week setting up two camps – one to cater for 90 x 13-17 year olds (TEENS) and the other camp just across the road to cater for 90 x 9-13 year olds (WARRIORS). The camps are run by Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ (WEC), an organisation that has been running these camps and various international missions since 1948! Two of the ladies who were setting up the Warrior camp kitchen have been helping out since the ‘80s! Thank God for their commitment to the young people of this generation

WEC 06-2018We are taking 9 Teens and 3 Warriors. Lorraine will be on the campsite with the Warriors and Ali will be with the Teens. This is the first time in 10 years we haven’t done Newday and are trying something new. Although it has been lovely not to have all the organisation of Newday, it is somewhat strange to be unfamiliar with the expectations of us and we ask for prayers that we will quickly pick up the routine and our responsibilities and above all that all 12 young people will have an encounter with Jesus and start a life-changing relationship with Him through Holy Spirit. Please pray for safety for all the volunteers and young people on both camps, for those leading worship and teaching sessions, for the catering team and the site maintenance team including medical volunteers. Also please pray for the young people; most of those we’re taking have never even opened a Bible, let alone read it and most of them have no concept of who Jesus is, having only heard about Him at Spring Weekends and The Sense gigs. All of them are regulars at the Café or ETP and 4 of them have had significant revelations and conversations about Jesus through our events. Please pray that they won’t feel out of their depth and disadvantaged by not being from a church; that their relationships with Jesus will deepen and their roots will be further established this week as the Teens look at “Journeying Together” with Hebrews 10 v 24 as the key verse and the Warriors look at Ephesians 6 and our identity in Christ

WEC Camps: Please pray for Julia* today as she has to return home to Gt Yarmouth so she can go to her Grandfather’s funeral tomorrow. Pray for her whole family – mum lost her mum in December and has now lost her dad. Ali has had the privilege of praying for/with them over the months but please pray that the whole family will have a life-changing relationship with Jesus and not be limited to a distant knowledge of a God who exists but is aloof. Thank God for Louise and Rachel who have sacrificed their time to come and pick her up to take her back home. Pray for the friend who remains on site, that she will resist the opportunity to leave camp with Julia*

Friday 3rd
WEC Camps: As we look towards coming home, pray that the young people will not fear the reaction of their friends and families to what they’ve discovered and experienced this week. Pray that they will not miss the opportunities to go deeper in this environment before they go home. Pray for courage to take the steps that God is inviting them to take with Him and for seeds to grow in their hearts
Session: “We have the privilege and responsibility of sharing our spiritual journey with others – this helps us focus on becoming disciple-making disciples

Saturday 4th
WEC Camps: Please pray for the journey home. Pray that the young people will nurture the new good relationships with each other and that they will only stay in touch with people who are going to be helpful and encouraging for them. Pray that all the things they have learned about missionary work abroad and about the world in general will take root and the young people will have an openness to travel and for the care and nurture of this planet

Sunday 5th August – Monday 3rd September inclusive
As Lorraine and Ali have some time off please pray that they will be refreshed in Christ, will be nourished by Holy Spirit, and be committed to growing their own relationships with God and growing the work of East Norfolk Youth for Christ into this next academic year through Great Yarmouth. Pray for guidance and for God’s plan to be made clear for the next step and that they will both be obedient to Him, leaving their own agendas behind
Pray for the young people who we won’t see during the holidays, that they will stay safe and that the seeds we have sown during the year will start to take root and they will come back with lots of questions and really be searching for Christ and His Kingdom

Pray for the teachers to be refreshed and renewed in their energy for the next year and for them to find Jesus in their own lives

Thank you for your support, as always and we thank God for all these opportunities to be His light in the communities around us
