CLIFFTOP GALA 07-2018BThree Gorleston churches teamed up to provide a stand at this year’s 21st Cliff Top Gala.  The tent with a colourful theme of All Things Bright and Beautiful was organised by St Andrew’s Church and were joined by volunteers from St Mary Magdalene and Cliff Park Community churches for the two day event
St Andrew’s administrator, Sally McBride (pictured right), coordinated the project and also captured the early morning photograph of Gorleston beach which provided the backdrop for the stand’s theme.  Children were invited to create postcards inspired by a sandpit filled with shells from the beach which carried the words All Things Bright and Beautiful The Lord God Made them All
Four hundred extra copies of the third monthly edition of the new St Andrew’s Community magazine were handed out to passers by which contained information about the churches.  Invitations to other activities including the Identity Youth Project’s Fusion Club and also Mags, the recently launched youth club at St Mary Magdalene, were also distributed
CLIFFTOP GALA 07-2018ACLIFFTOP GALA 07-2018CA team of people including both the Vicar of Gorleston, Rev Brian Hall, and the Vicar of St Mary Magdalene, Rev Matthew Price, took part on both days.  Saturday’s warm sunny weather brought out the crowds although strong gusts of wind provided anxious moments for many of the stands, including the church one.  A more sturdy and weather proof gazebo was substituted on Sunday and survived the heavy rain and strong winds which forced many other stall holders to abandon their sites during the morning.  The churches team decided to hang on and the weather improve just before lunch time
It is hoped to build on the success of this venture for next year’s Gala and the churches are also planning to have a presence again at the Christmas lights switch on event in Gorleston High Street in November
