Sunday 30th December

Heavenly Father, picking up the pieces is not always easy. After Jesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish the disciples filled twelve baskets with the pieces they picked up. After He fed 4,000 people with seven loaves and a few fish the disciples picked up seven baskets full. It must have taken some time and effort to do this on both occasions
We sometimes say that when a relationship breaks down, then someone is left to pick up the pieces. Again, this is not easy, it takes time and effort and it would be easy to simply give up. Thank You that when our relationship with You broke down, You did not give up on us, but You came into this world to pick up the broken pieces
King David said that a broken and contrite heart You will not despise and that he came before You with a broken spirit. You described David as a man after Your own heart, even though he sinned greatly
Help me to do this today, to come before You with a broken and contrite heart, offering You my broken spirit so that You can pick up the pieces and restore my soul. Your work of restoration is continuous as the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, Your mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning, great is Your faithfulness oh Lord. The world is full of shattered relationships, broken dreams; the earth itself is broken, the whole of creation groans as it waits for the day of restoration
Thank You that today is the day of Salvation, Jesus has picked up the pieces, my soul is restored again, every morning

Saturday 29th December

Heavenly Father, I wonder what is No 1 on Your wish list for the coming year. I know what is No 1 on mine; it is the same as it was last year and the year before that, and the year before. I think it is the same as Yours: Reconciliation! And I think that has been Your greatest desire for all time. After all, You even came into the world so that we could be reconciled to You, and it cost Jesus His life so that sin was paid for and our relationship with You could be restored
I know it breaks Your heart to see nations at war, families estranged, husbands and wives at each other’s throats, individuals bearing grudges and seeking to destroy one another. In Your love for us, and Jesus said it was the greatest love, You laid down Your life for us, even while we were still far off and even though we crucified Jesus, Your only Son, from the cross You forgave us so that we could be reconciled to You
It is Your desire to see everyone saved but You have given us free will and do not force Yourself on anyone. Dictators force themselves on nations, there is no love there. Men force themselves on women, there is no love there. Fathers rule families with a rod of iron, I doubt there is much love there. But You love us, love me so much that You died in my place even though there was no guarantee that I would love You in return
I am sure it breaks Your heart that so many people still do not know You, know of You but reject You, just as the people in Jesus' time on earth rejected Him. Reconciliation, all ways

Friday 28th December

Heavenly Father, there are many things, which for us, are easier said than done. Most things are really hard work: resisting temptation, earning a living, having a baby, raising a family, forgiving others; all more easily said than done
For You there are some things that were easier said "Let there be light!" and it was done. You spoke the sky into being, land from out of the waters, and the vegetation to grow from the earth. You spoke the sun, moon and stars into their places. Fish, birds, all creatures you spoke and they were there, easier said. Then You created us, in Your image, from the dust of the earth. Creation for You was said and done. Then we messed everything up
For You to redeem us, save us, win the battle for our souls, really was more easily said than done; it was hard for You. You spoke many times in history by Your prophets, telling us You would rescue us, send a Saviour, send Your Son
From the moment of conception it was hard for You, after birth fleeing to Egypt for safety. Working as a carpenter, hard work with Your hands. Teaching the disciples, hard work. Being betrayed, hard to stomach. Praying so hard in the Garden of Gethsemane that You sweated blood, asking if there was a different Way; "Not my will, but Yours".  More easily said than done! Facing Your accusers, tried, condemned to death. The cross, more easily said than done
Father, Jesus, thank You that when we needed You, You were there, not easily done at all, but exactly as You said.  Thank You for Your Word, Jesus

Thursday 27th December

Heavenly Father, most of us love to be at home. Home, sweet home. Home is where the heart is. No matter how lovely the place we may have just visited, holiday, friends or family, there's no place like home. Perhaps we are made to feel at home, welcomed, comfortable; wherever I hang my hat, that's my home; but it is good to be home
For some I guess home is not the safe haven it should be, it is a place of terror, abuse, oppression. For some, home may be a city in ruins because of war, not sweet, nowhere to hang a hat and no heart.  Others have no home, living on the streets, a shop doorway, on a park bench, in an underpass
Lord Jesus, You told us that foxes have dens, birds have nests but that You had nowhere to lay Your head. Like many people You had been a refugee, and having left Heaven to live here with us on earth You were a stranger in a strange land, in the world which You created but we did not recognise You
Lord Jesus, why on earth did You give up Heaven? Why, in Heaven’s name did You come to the earth? I hear Your reply "Love." For God so loved the world that He gave His One and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life
I hear You tell me that You have made Your home where Your heart is, and that You and the Father have made Your home in me and in all people who believe and trust in You by Your Holy Spirit. You have also gone ahead of us to prepare a place for us in Your Father's house, where there are many rooms, even one for me! Such love! Thank You

Wednesday 26th December

Heavenly Father, all sorts of gifts would have been given as Christmas presents over the last day or two. Some may have been expensive; many would have been surprises, others exactly what had been needed. For many, the most appreciated gift would have been homemade and a great deal of time and effort would have been put into the making of the gift
Father, You spent a great deal of time preparing the gift You gave to us at Christmas just over 2,000 years ago; from the beginning You talked of little else. Strangely though, Your gift was brought into time from Eternity; from Heaven You came, a helpless babe, into our world Your glory veiled
We put time into our gift; You put Your gift into time. After a miraculous conception and birth, for 33 years You lived among us, the first thirty almost anonymous, the last three revealing exactly who You were, Your glory no longer veiled, the glory of the one and only Son, full of grace and truth, witnessed first-hand by John and testified to by John in his gospel
Father, we did not appreciate Your gift, the gift of Your Son, and later we crucified Him. From the cross Jesus gave us another gift, forgiveness; we really did not know what we were doing, but You did, and He did
Father, thank You for the greatest gift ever given. Lord Jesus, thank You for the greatest gift ever given. Holy Spirit, thank You that You continuously remind us of the greatest gift ever given, Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour. Impossible to count the cost, the most valuable gift ever

Tuesday 25th December

Heavenly Father, Thank You. Lord Jesus, Happy Birthday. Holy Spirit, welcome and good morning

O Holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us we pray
Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord, Immanuel

God is with us, incredible as it may seem, You are with us, and You remain with us. Father, we say that time flies and although about two thousand and eighteen years have passed, to You it just seems like yesterday that You delivered Your Son to us, and in that act of sacrifice left Him with us for another act of sacrifice and another act of deliverance; our deliverance from evil. Where would we be without You? Without Jesus?
Father, we only have to look to parts of the world where Jesus is not regarded as Lord and Saviour to see where we would be! Without Jesus, without You, without Your Holy Spirit, war, destruction, desolation, misery
Thank You for the joy of Christmas, Christ-mas. Thank You that Your joy is our strength. Thank You for the Hope we have in Christ. Let us sing today the angels song "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favour rests"
Thank You that Your favour rests on us, because Jesus has saved us from our sins. Without the birth of Jesus, there would be no sacrifice and without the sacrifice there would be no salvation. But the birth is Truth. The sacrifice is Truth. The Resurrection is Truth. Salvation is Truth and He is born in us today

Monday 24th December

Heavenly Father, the mistake I made yesterday when I was praying was as plain as the nose on my face but I didn't see it until it was pointed out to me, and even then I had to read what I had written three times before I saw the error of my ways.  There was nothing I could do but apologise and correct the mistake. There was no point in denying I had erred, sinned; no snake to blame, no-one else to accuse, I couldn't say "She told me to write it!"
Father, I hope and pray that any mistakes I make in future, whether in prayer or teaching, or in my daily life and work will be as easily and quickly rectified and with no lasting damage to anyone or to me. I suppose the accuser, the enemy, satan, may try to use my mistakes against me, fill me with guilt, shame, anxiety; try to stop me from praying in case I make more mistakes; fill me with fear and dread of the consequences! Holy Spirit, I know You are with me! Lord Jesus I know You are for me, not against me!
Father I know You sent Jesus into the world to be our Saviour, my Saviour and to save me from my sins! If we claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves and the Truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, You are faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness
Lord Jesus, You sat on the beach with Simon Peter and told him to care for Your sheep, Your lambs, even though he had denied You three times. You also told him to forgive people seventy times seven. Jesus, the same yesterday, today and forever. Thank You
