MUSIC AT THE MINSTERIt was a privilege to attend this recital on 1st May 2019, which reflected 'springspiration' in abundance, the compelling beauty of the music being interpreted with extreme finesse by the highly accomplished recitalist. Indeed, the choice of music was evocative of the season and included on organ Mendelssohn's May Breezes and Bach's Chorale Prelude on Wachet Auf, a thoughtful juxtaposition of these uplifting works. The recital opened with Handel's March from the occasional Oratorio which was delivered with style and precision, the much loved music being well suited to the sacred space. Likewise Dubois' composition Grand Choeur, necessitating the use of the loud stops on the organ, resounded magnificently in the Minster
Plano pieces included the Prelude in B Flat minor by Chopin, the poet of the piano, Brahms' Intermezzo in A minor, and Cyril Scott's Water-Wagtail, evocative of the rippling waters of rivers and lakes. However the highlights were undoubtedly John Farmer's own compositions, Springtime in Switzerland, Blades Across the Water, Inspired by the wind farm off Great Yarmouth, and Full Steam Ahead, inspired by the Bittern Line and Poppy Line Steam Railways in North Norfolk
All are greatly looking forward to the summer season of recitals at the Minster Church and the Great Yarmouth Arts Festival
