Procrastination

Procrastination is the thief of time. We’ve all done it at some point, put off until tomorrow what we could, and should, have done today.  We put things off until we really have to do them or it will be too late and we, or others, will suffer because they haven’t been done.  We always used to tell our children to do their homework as soon as they got home so that it would be out of the way and wouldn’t be hanging over them or worrying them, giving them the freedom to play in peace.  When we put things off that need to be done, the thought of them can hang over us like a cloud robbing us of peace, making us anxious, depressed or just plain grumpy

dove leftWriting this article I knew I had a deadline but put it off, waiting for the right inspiration. Then, the day before it was due, I sat and typed my piece and got it “just right”, then the computer crashed and wouldn’t restart. I was cross with the computer and after trying to recover the document, and finding the hard disc had died,  was unable to remember all that I had written and had to start again.………..I wasn’t in the peaceful place I intended to be and was certainly robbed of the joy of having it finished

Jesus didn’t procrastinate, He knew what He had to do, and He determined to do it, even though He knew it would cost Him His life.  Just before going to the cross, He did pray “Father, if it is possible take this from me, but nevertheless not my will but your will be done”.  Because of His great love for us he got the job done so that we could be set free

The Bible says that “Today is the day of salvation”; that’s because today is the only day we have, yesterday has gone, we can’t get it back, we may not have a tomorrow, we never know when our time is up. If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Saviour it’s time to stop putting it off and do it, so that you can enjoy the peace of knowing that your future is secure with Him
