Captain Marie Burr says "hello"

18th August 2020
MARIE BURRWhen I arrived in Great Yarmouth at the end of July, I really hit the road running; arriving in the middle of a pandemic and things are very busy
The Salvation Army in Great Yarmouth is giving out about 120 food parcels, around 100 hot meals, and 60 family picnics each week.  We are having to try and find more volunteers to deliver parcels to people that are still shielding.  With the local council hub now closed we are adding their numbers to our deliveries too
Before coming to Great Yarmouth, I was appointed to the church in Leytonstone, London, for twelve months and, before that,  Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire,  for five years.  As you can imagine Great Yarmouth is very different for me
Despite the differences, I absolutely love it here; the people are so kind and generous.   I love the location and all of my church folk and the local community have been so helpful.  I am starting to find my way around
SALVATION ARMY logoI was born and bred in Whitstable so I come from a seaside town and I am very happy to be back by the sea to work. Unfortunately, our church is not yet back to Sunday worship as it just isn’t safe to do so, but we have two services online each week.  Anyone can join on Great Yarmouth Salvation Army YouTube channel on a Wednesday and Sunday
We also still have a charity shop just along from the market which we are hoping to open again once we are sure all is COVID safe, hopefully in September
I hope to be in Great Yarmouth for a few years to come.  If you would like to pop along and meet me, please do.  You'll find us at Tolhouse Street, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2SQ
