Daily Share-a-Prayer w/e 03/01/2021
Worship Leader, All Saints Church, Belton
Sunday 3rd January
Heavenly Father, there is a great deal of talk about 'being tested' these days. I will be tested today because I will come into Your presence and will ask You to test me, just as King David did! "Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and mind; for I have always been mindful of Your unfailing love and have lived in reliance on Your faithfulness"
My prayer is that when I come to You the result will be positive, I will receive a positive response, not because I have done anything to warrant it but because of Jesus and what He has done for me; because I rely on His faithfulness and His unfailing love
I know I will be blessed because of Your promise, "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him"
There are trials and tribulations, tests, every day and I get to choose how I will respond! Will I be positive? Will I trust You, rely on Your unfailing love and faithfulness, live my life empowered by Your Spirit? Or will I be negative? Will I go my own way, live in my own strength and offer nothing to the world? Jesus said, "I AM the Vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing"
Lord Jesus, I choose to be positive, to trust in You, to remain in You, and wherever and whenever possible to reach out in love by the power of Your Spirit. May others then test positive for Your Spirit too

A New Commandment
Saturday 2nd January
Heavenly Father, thank You for fresh starts
Thank You that today does not have to be the same as yesterday
Thank You for the prayer Paul prayed for the disciples in Rome, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit"
Thank You that You answer Paul's prayer, even today!
I may have fallen but You pick me up. It may be dark but You shine a light. I may be poor but I have God's riches at Christ's expense. I may be low but You enable me to rise up on wings like an eagle. I may be unsure about which way to go but You say, whether I turn to the right or to the left, my ears will hear a voice behind me, saying, "This is the Way; walk in it". I may feel all alone, be on my own, but You are with me always
Thank You that You are the God of hope
Thank You that Your joy, the joy of the Lord, is my strength
Thank You that You, the God of peace, walk with me, giving me the peace of God which passes all understanding
Thank You that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever!
Thank You that no matter how many flaming arrows the enemy fires at me the shield of faith You provide can extinguish them all
Father, by Your Spirit, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. "I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With Him at my right hand, I will not be shaken." May I overflow with hope by the power of Your Holy Spirit today
Thank You that Jesus, the Truth, sets me free

We Will Not Be Shaken
Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble
Friday 1st January
Heavenly Father, We sing, "While shepherds watched their flocks by night, all seated on the ground, the angel of the Lord came down, and glory shone around"
The shepherds are told that a Saviour has been born and they will find Him in Bethlehem, lying in a manger. The scripture then tells us that when the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about". They did just that, "So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what they had been told about this Child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them"
And then what? Nothing really for about thirty years, except that the shepherds lived in or around Bethlehem, so I would imagine they had children there. We know that, "Herod was furious and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years and under". I wonder if their faith wavered? Did they remember what happened, the angels and the manger, or did grief overwhelm them?
Father, we are waiting for Jesus, just like the shepherds. Did they realise that the man on the cross 33 years later, the man of miracles, was the same person as the baby? As we wait in tough times, help us to remember the baby in the manger is also the man on the cross. Strengthen our faith as we wait

All I Know I Don't Know Why
Thursday 31st December
Heavenly Father, I shared with You yesterday my dream for the coming year, that we would be set free from all the restrictions that have been placed upon us by the pandemic
When this is over, when we have been immunised against Covid-19, and we can return to 'normal' things that were wrong before will still be wrong; the broken world we live in we still be broken. There will still be evil, hate, abuse, murder, sickness, pain, and suffering
But in amongst this there will also be joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control because Your Spirit is at work. And there is also the knowledge that the best is yet to come!
Thank You that You have shared Your vision of the future through the Revelation You gave to John on the Isle of Patmos. This is not a dream You have, a hope of what might happen, it is a statement of what You are going to do
It is set by You and You will do this at a time You decide. There will be "a new Heaven and a new earth". Your dwelling place will be with Your people. You will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of this world will have passed away. "The trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed"
You will give us a new heart and a new mind and we will live with You in perfect peace and harmony. There's a place where the streets shine with the glory of the Lord! Thank You for the hope we have through Jesus

Because of You (There's a Place)
Wednesday 30th December
Heavenly Father, thank You for the feast! Thank You for this time of year when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, Your only begotten Son, born of Your Spirit
Thank You for the many acts of kindness that flow from this celebration, the giving and receiving of gifts, the sending of greetings cards offering love and good wishes, the heartwarming calls from one to another as people meet in the street, this year without a hug or a handshake due to the pandemic among us
Thank You for the fast that follows the feast when we try to lose the weight we have put on over the festive period! The return to 'normal'. 'Normal'? What is that? Martin Luther King Jr made a famous speech usually known by the opening words, "I have a dream..."
I guess many of us have a dream today. Mine? "Father, I have a dream that soon we will get back to normal; but a better normal
I have a dream that soon I won't have to avoid people, that I won't cross the road when someone approaches
I have a dream that I will shake hands with strangers, hug my friends, invite people for coffee, see faces open and smiling
I have a dream that we will sit down to eat together
I have a dream that we will worship freely, sitting together, singing praise to You, offering peace to one another, sharing bread and wine together
I have a dream that all we have shared at Christmas and all we have learned in this pandemic will not be forgotten and love will conquer all evil. "Faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love”

Let There be Love Shared Among Us
Let there be love, peace, hope shared among us
Tuesday 29th December
Heavenly Father, I looked up the ingredients for a Victoria sponge cake and found caster sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla bean paste, self-raising flour, baking powder, skimmed milk, half fat double cream, fresh raspberries, and icing sugar; all in various quantities. If I follow the instructions, mixing together the right amounts, in the correct way and place the resulting goo in the oven at the right temperature, 180%C, for the given time I can watch through the glass as the goo transforms into a very tasty cake
I also looked up the elements that make up the human body and found that "almost 99% of the human body is made up of six elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. Only about 0.85% is composed of another five elements: potassium, sulphur, sodium, chlorine, and magnesium. All 11 are necessary for life"
I may be able to collect the ingredients to make the sponge cake, but even if I could collect the elements that make up the human body, in the correct proportions I would not be able to ‘pop them in the oven’ and create a human being
The creation of life takes place in the womb, where You work the miracle that brings forth a baby. But why? What is the point, the purpose? The cake, to be eaten, enjoyed; if left it will rot away. Us? Love!
You create us in love, our purpose is love and it was in love that Jesus came to us. Love is in relationships, with each other and with You. Without love we decay. Help our love for You and others to grow

Monday 28th December
Heavenly Father, thank You that in these tough times You have been with us
I love the scene in the short TV film, ‘Mr Krueger's Christmas’ where James Stewart, playing Mr Krueger, as he is putting together his Christmas crib, is transported to Bethlehem and speaks to the baby Jesus in the manger. He talks about Jesus being with him in the toughest times and the darkest times, always being there, by his side. He finishes by telling Jesus how much he loves Him, that He is his closest, his finest friend and that means that wherever he goes he can hold his head up high; he thanks Jesus and then returns to the present
It is a fantasy of course; a lovely scene played by a great actor, but there is Truth behind it
Lord Jesus, thank You that as I look at crib scene in my house I can talk to You. I can say in Truth that You are my closest, my finest, friend. You have been there, with me, throughout the tough times, the dark times, and that it is the Truth that because I have You, the Son of God, as my friend, I can hold my head up wherever I go; not because of anything I have done but because of what You have done and what You do every day; You cleanse me of all unrighteousness so I can boldly approach the manger and the throne of God, who delights in seeing His children and hearing them confess their love
Thank You that every crib scene, every crib service, in church or online, reminds us of the depth of Your love for us
