Sunday 18th July

Heavenly Father, the 'Times Table' You gave Ecclesiastes brings so much comfort, even though there are negative things within it! Why? Because it reminds us that time passes and good and bad things pass too

You tell us, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace"

Father, help me to recognise each season and to move on when it is over. When the pillar of cloud guiding Your people moved, the Israelites moved, when it stopped, they stopped, "whether it was for two days or a month or a year"

Thank You that the pillar of fire and the cloud of Your Spirit now live within us, telling us when to move and when to stop. A time will come when time ends and Eternal Life begins, never-ending. There will be no time to die! You will wipe every tear from our eyes, there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain

For now, I am a 'time-being’; help me to do only what I see You doing, at the time You choose
Amen

Saturday 17th July

Heavenly Father, how desperately we need Your guidance in these days. Thank You that we can come to You: "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you"

Help us to find the right path, the right Way. It is not always easy with so many different voices offering so many different options, so many differing opinions, often opposite to one another. You tell us "Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone"

I have no desire to repay anyone evil for evil. I want to be careful and do what is right in the eyes of everyone. I want to live at peace with everyone, but not everything depends on me, so it may not always be possible, so therefore I need Your wisdom. On any given day a problem may arise and a decision has to be made

I know the Way of Jesus, "Not My will but Yours be done." I know the cost to Jesus, "being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death - even death on a cross". My decisions are not of this magnitude, but I still want to do what is right, honouring to You, so I seek Your guidance and Your Way. As I wrestle with my conscience, as I wrestle with You, I can only say what Jacob said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me"

Thank You. Your Holy Spirit is the blessing I need and what You have given.
Amen

Friday 16th July

Heavenly Father, making a decision is never easy. Weighing up the pros and cons. What are the advantages and disadvantages, what will be the effect on people around me, my family, and friends? Is it right or wrong? Is it what You want as my God? Is it what Jesus would do?

Some decisions are inconsequential while others are life changing. For some, decisions are made for them, events take a turn for the worse, things happen beyond their control and there is little or no choice about what to do; but I guess there is always some choice?

Do I allow what has happened to change me as a person? Do I allow what has happened to bring me down? Do I let my relationship with people close to me, or relative strangers, deteriorate? Do I let my relationship with You slip? Is my trust eroded? Am I losing my faith in You and Your promises? Will I rely on my own abilities and strength or do I turn to You and ask for Your help and guidance, rely on Your strength and Your abilities? Do I forgive and forget? Or do I forgive and remember? I know I should always forgive, but then what?

There will be people today in a real quandary about what to do next, their decision will be life changing. For many of us life will go on and the next decision will be of little consequence, "What will I have for breakfast?"

Whatever today brings, lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil, for Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you"
Amen

Thursday 15th July

Heavenly Father, I came across an interesting video clip yesterday created by a husband who had bought 'the dream home' his wife had wanted. It is a lovely moment when she realises what he has done for her and when they sit down together. Within the video clip he says how she deserves this as she has worked so hard

Jesus told his disciples, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I AM going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I AM"

Thank You that we know this; Jesus has gone ahead of us and prepared a place for us. Do I deserve this? No. Have I worked hard for this? No. Have I done anything to deserve this? No. Jesus has done this for me entirely by grace because He loves me

Can anything stop me going to the place He has prepared for me? No. Jesus said, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I have given them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are One"

Thank You for this wonderful promise! You and Your Son, look after me. You hold me in Your hand and will bring me home safely. No matter what happens, whatever comes, I am safe in Your hands
Amen

Wednesday 14th July

Heavenly Father, as we come through this time of testing I wonder how many will have survived? I don't mean how many will have died and how many will have lived but how many will still be faithful and will have stood firm to the end, remaining in their church and supporting their leaders and other members of their community, offering praise and thanksgiving to You for all that You have done

It is for You only to judge a person's heart and their actions; only You know how people have dealt with what has happened. Earthquakes are measured on the Richter scale. On the scale a 'micro' earthquake is from 1.0 to 2.9 and is generally not felt by people, though it can be recorded on instruments. 5.0 to 5.9 is listed as 'moderate' with some damage to weak structures. 8.0 and higher is 'great' with severe destruction and loss of life over large areas

I wonder how the pandemic would register.  Has it been 'micro', hardly felt by people? I don't think so. Has it been 'moderate', with some damage to those whose faith proved to be weak? Or has it been 'great', with severe destruction in the church with loss of faith over a wide area?

Father, forgive me for times when I have wavered, felt as though the earth was giving way beneath me. Thank You for the times You held me up, been my Rock, when it seemed like the earth was shaking. I guess there has been wide ranging destruction, but those who have held on to Jesus will still be standing. Please see me through this test to the end
Amen

Tuesday 13th July

Heavenly Father, Jesus was determined to go to Jerusalem; I suppose this could mean two things: a) He had decided to go to Jerusalem and nothing was going to stop Him; b) You, His Father, had decided He was to go to Jerusalem, this You had determined in prophetic words

We are told, "As the time approached for Him to be taken up to Heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem". The prophetic words linked to this, showing what You had determined, "Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame". So it was that Jesus set His face like flint and was determined to go to Jerusalem

His days on earth were numbered by You. Your Word testifies, "A person's days are determined; You have decreed the number of his months and set limits he cannot exceed". Jesus knew that His time here was limited and that to accomplish what You had sent Him to do He had to be determined; nothing and no-one was going to stop Him

When Jesus told the disciples what was going to happen in Jerusalem, Simon Peter declared that this should never happen, but Jesus said, "Get behind me, satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns"

Father, You know the number of days I have been allotted; help me to be determined to do all that You have determined for me to do in those days. Set my face like flint, but soften my heart
Amen

Monday 12th July

Heavenly Father, sometimes things go wrong, we may have an accident, hurt ourselves in some way, or we make break something, or are disappointed because a plan doesn't work out the way we hope

We can recover from these things; it may take only moments or it may take some time, but we can recover and usually do. But Father there are so many people who have to live with a problem that is not going to go away, they will not recover and they will not 'get over it.' I stubbed my toe last week, it swelled up and went purple, but now it is back to normal

For some the problem they have to live with IS normal. It may be a low income, poor housing or no housing, an illness or an injury or a disability, an addiction, or they live is war zone; there are too many troubles to list, but You know every one of them, because You know every one of us and everything about us

There will come a day when You make a new Heaven and a new earth, Jesus will return and every one of life's problems will be dealt with. Your promise is a future when every tear will be wiped away, and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain

Father, for those who struggle every single day, this day cannot come soon enough, but in the meantime Your Holy Spirit can fill people with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Being filled like this transforms a life!

Lord Jesus, bring Hope! Transform lives today, and where I can help, show me. Thank You
Amen
