Sunday 10th October

Heavenly Father, if I want a heart like Jesus, I have some big changes to make, some big decisions to make. Every day I will be faced with choices as to how I will deal with the world around me
What will I choose? Fear or faith; envy or compassion; hatred or love; rebellion or submission; anger or meekness; despair or hope, my way or Your Way?
Do I choose a life of fear, envy, hatred, rebellion, anger and despair? This does not sound like much of a life at all! And yet so often it is the choice we make; the choice I make
What of the alternative, a life of faith, compassion, love, submission, meekness and hope? How do I live a life like this? In whom do I have faith? Where do I find compassion? Who will love me no matter what I have done and no matter what my circumstances? To whom should I submit? How can I be meek and still survive? Where do I find hope in a seemingly hopeless world?
Thank You for Your promise that when I come to You, when I submit to You, You give me all I need to have a heart like Jesus
Your Word to Joshua is also Your Word to us! "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go". You are with me! I do not face the world alone? I can trust Your Word?
"Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit" says the Lord. "I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit in you"
Thank You that by Your Spirit I can have a heart like Jesus. May my way be Your Way, His Way
songs for today:
Create In Me A Clean Heart
This Is My Desire

Saturday 9th October

Heavenly Father, we have a saying, "I don't want to give the game away!" Usually this means we don't want to let someone know a secret before the right time
This may even be applied to games of football when, on the News, the newsreader tells us to look away and turn off the sound, or even leave the room as the latest results are revealed!
Thank You that You have not kept secret the Truth about Jesus, that You want the Truth to be broadcast far and wide
Lord Jesus, You said to Your disciples, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you"
You also said, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth"
Thank You that those first disciples did as You instructed and that disciples throughout the ages have continued to do the same. I am not sure if where I live is the "ends of the earth" but it is certainly a long way from Jerusalem!
And the Good News is still being broadcast and working its way through "all nations". Even in nations where talking about You is banned, disciples continue to tell others, at great risk to themselves
Thank You that I also get the chance to 'give the game away!'
Lord Jesus, You died on the cross to pay for all sin, including mine, You were raised from the dead and have sent Your Spirit as promised to empower us

I, the Lord of Sea and Sky

Friday 8th October

Heavenly Father, the Psalmist gives us a great invitation, and with it some great advice, "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our Salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song"

We are invited to sing to You, we are invited to shout aloud to You with thanksgiving! Why? Because You are the Rock of our Salvation! And the great advice? Sing for joy to the Lord, shout aloud with thanksgiving! Why is this great advice? Because it reminds me of who You are and what I owe You, the Rock of my Salvation
But not only this, the Psalmist offers a further invitation, "Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; for He is our God and we are the people of His  pasture, the flock under His care". Not only are You the Rock of my Salvation, You are my Maker, my Creator, and as such You are worthy of my worship, sung and shouted as I kneel before You
You are my God and my Shepherd, so I am under Your care. In fact You are the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep, for me; hence You are the Rock of my Salvation
Lord Jesus, You said, "I AM the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep". You not only said this, but You then went on and did it! You laid down Your life for us, through Your own choice: You said, "No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down of my own accord"
Invitation accepted, I will worship You today, the Rock of my Salvation
songs for today:
Come Let Us Worship and Bow Down
Salvation Belongs To Our God

I will worship with all of my heart - You Are Worthy of My Praise

Thursday 7th October

Heavenly Father, You are the God of promises, the One and Only God. There are so many promises but just a few of them remind us that You are with us, "I the Lord do not change... As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you... The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged...I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you"
Thank You that we can trust in Your Word, You have given us Your Word, Jesus, and all Your promises are fulfilled in Him
As St Paul writes to the Christians in Corinth, "For no matter how many promises God has made, they are 'Yes' in Christ. And so through Him the 'Amen' is spoken by us to the glory of God". We can know the Truth that You will never leave us because Jesus died and rose again, and He said He will come back for us: "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I AM"
Thank You that we can be certain of Your promises today because Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit: "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of Truth". We now know this! "Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come". What promises we have!
songs for today:
Standing on this mountaintop – Never Once
You'll Never Walk Alone

Wednesday 6th October

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your constant love. Thank You that we can build our lives on that firm foundation! Thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank You for Jesus and everything He said and everything He did
Jesus said, "Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the wind blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock". Thank You that Jesus is the firm foundation, the living demonstration of Your love
Lord Jesus, by Your Spirit, help me to not merely hear Your words but also put them into practice. May Your Word be planted in my heart, take root there and guide everything I say and do. "Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through Psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts"
When storms come, or I find myself in a desert, strengthen my feeble hands, steady my knees that give way; remind my fearful heart, "Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, He will come with vengeance; with divine retribution He will come to save you"
Thank You that when I am weak You are strong; thank You that when I lack faith You are faithful. Lead me to the Highway of Holiness, where I can see and hear and leap and shout for joy
Thank You for Your faithfulness and goodness to me, my Lord and Saviour; my unchanging God

Tuesday 5th October

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have enabled us to live lives that are Christ-centred rather than self-centred. Thank You that we can come to You and ask You to fill us with Your Spirit, enabling us to live the life that You have planned for us rather than the life we would plan for ourselves
Life without You is dry, dusty, arid. King David knew what this was like! "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water". In the desert he sought You and trusted Your love for him. "Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You. I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your Name I will lift up my hands"
It is so easy to become self-seeking, self-serving, self-promoting. Your Way is different! You tell us, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests, but each of you to the interests of others"
When I am at the centre of my life I end up looking after myself, putting my own needs first. But this is not Your Way. "No one should seek their own good, but the good of others". If I don't look out for myself who will look out for me? You do! When I seek first Your Kingdom You add all I need
Lord Jesus, help me to live life as You would have me lead it
Holy Spirit guide me, light the Way for me so I see where You want me to go. Let Your living water flow over me and out from me. Thank You. I can only do this because You enable me
songs for today:
Jesus Be The Centre
O Lord I Want to Sing Your Praises

Monday 4th October

Heavenly Father, who can we trust wholeheartedly today?
Should we put our trust in politicians? They are people and there are good and bad people so we must take great care
Should we put our trust in the law courts, judges, juries, the police? Again, people are involved, good and bad, so we must take great care
Can we put our trust in religion? But we may ask which religion? And are religious people different to any other? There are good and bad religious people, in fact there is good and bad in all of us!
Father, who can we trust wholeheartedly? The Bible tells us, "You are my strength, I watch for You; You, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely". How can I be certain I can trust You, rely on You?
How can I know You are real and not a figment of my imagination? The Bible tells us, "There is one God and one Mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all people". How can I know this is true and not merely a product of someone's imagination?
Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, alive and active in the world and in Your people, Your children. Your Spirit has brought our spirit to life and so we are able to discern the Truth. "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, what no human mind has conceived - the things God has prepared for those who love Him - these are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit"
Thank You that we have the mind of Christ, so I can put my trust in You, in Jesus, by Your Spirit, alive in me!
