News from the Mag August 2022

MATTHEW PRICE 04-2021Reverend Matthew Price
Vicar, St Mary Magdalene Church, Gorleston

There has been lots in the news recently about the cost of living crisis. Perhaps you have even noticed an increase to the cost of the food you buy in the supermarket. Almost certainly the cost of your utility bills will have risen and, if you drive, perhaps, like me, you have been shocked at how much it now costs to fill your car

Some of us may have had to tighten our belts, but for others in our society things have become critical. We hear in the news of families having to choose between heating their houses or feeding their children, but sadly this has become the reality for some in our community

Since March we have seen the usage of our foodbank increase by 85%. And as we look forward to the winter with further increased costs, as the energy cap rises again, we are concerned that the demand on foodbanks will only rise further

GY&MAG FOODBANKSo, together with our partners in the Yarmouth & Magdalen Foodbank, which operates out of St Mary Magdalene Church in Gorleston and Pathway Café on Admiralty Road in Great Yarmouth, we are launching an appeal for donations now to get ready for the winter

Donations of food can be made at St Mary Magdalene Church Hall (access off Fastolff Avenue through the black gates) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings between 9am and 12 noon. Keep a look out too for the collection points that will be popping up in our community over the coming weeks where donations can be made

You can keep up to date with the particular needs at any given time by following us on our Facebook at facebook.com/yarmouthmagdalenfoodbank; go to our website at https://yarmouthmagdalen.foodbank.org.uk or give me a call on 01493 494248
We are so grateful for all the support we receive as a foodbank – together we can ensure that no family in our community goes hungry this winter!
