Sunday 3rd  May

Heavenly Father, thank You for being with us.  We seem to be in contact with people across the world because of Wi-Fi and the World Wide Web; text messages, phone calls, or video links connecting us in seconds.  But we seem to find it difficult to believe that You can connect with us just as easily, in fact even more so, as You are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble
I was wondering why we couldn't recognise You for who You were when You walked the earth?  When things go wrong and we call for help we need someone who will knuckle down, get their hands dirty and get the job done.  This is exactly what You did when You came to the earth; You left Your Kingly robes at home in Heaven and came to us in Your overalls, ready to work, ready to start putting things right
Lord Jesus, You knew then exactly what needed to be done, and so You set about doing it; getting Your hands dirty as You touched and healed lepers, restored sight to the blind, opened the ears of the deaf, strengthened the limbs of the lame, and healed all kinds of diseases.  All clear signs of who You were, but we didn't see beyond Your overalls to the Man beneath, the Son of God
Yesterday, today, and forever You are the same, and You still know exactly what we need: we need You.  The enemy tries to break the connection between us, causes interference, tries to hack in to our conversation, but You tell us to be still, and know that You are God.  You have provided us with a new router, Your Holy Spirit.  What a God!  Thank You

Saturday 2nd May

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promised Kingdom, here on earth but also yet to come
Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the Kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied "The coming of the Kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say 'Here it is' or 'There it is' because the Kingdom of God is in your midst"
The Kingdom of God is within us, within all who believe and trust in Your Word.  The Kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.  The Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.  Your power is at work in us!
Thank You that even today we are citizens of Heaven, even though we reside on earth
Thank You that even today, in this day of trouble, You are with us and we will not be shaken
Thank You for Your many promises, including this through Isaiah “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be removed" says the Lord, who has compassion on you. Your mercies are new every day and Your love and compassion never fail
Father in Heaven, even Your Name is Holy.  May Your Kingdom come, Your will be done here on earth, just as it is in Heaven.  Thank for our daily bread and Your forgiveness of our sins; I do forgive any and all who have sinned against me.  Do not let me succumb to any temptation, indeed deliver me from any evil.  Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.  Thank You

Friday 1st May

Heavenly Father, a phrase struck me yesterday, perhaps just because it had a sort of rhythm to it, but I think because it had a resonance which comes from You: 'the implication is application'
It is not enough to know that I should build my house on the rock, I need to do it!  It is not enough to know that Jesus is Lord, I need to follow His Way
It is not enough to believe in God, as James tells us, "You believe there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that - and shudder"
It is not enough to believe, You want us to be obedient to Your Way
You want us to love the Way Jesus loved, You want us to love the Way You love.  You tell us, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart"
Father, forgive the times I am half hearted, or even less!  I know You want more than Sunday morning and Wednesday night, You want me to seek You every day, all day; not just first thing in the morning and last thing at night
You want me to live with You.  You want to live within me
You don't need my money, my sacrifice; You want me, my heart, and not half of my heart, but my whole heart.  You are whole-hearted, which is why You gave everything to come to the earth
Your sacrifice was entirely in obedience.  King David said, "My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart You, God, will not despise"
Forgive my hard heart, soften my heart.  Forgive my half-hearted living and help me to live life in all fullness, the Life Jesus came to give.  To obey is better than sacrifice

Thursday 30th April

Lord Jesus, the Bible doesn't tell how long there was between the question and the answer when You asked the twelve, "You do not want to leave too do you?"  It may have been instant, a few moments, a minute or two, but I guess each of the disciples felt their hearts race, wondering, "What do I say?  What does He mean?  Everyone else is leaving, shall I go too?"
The question is the same today as we are going through a hard time, a time of hard teaching, just as the disciples were, so Your Spirit asks us, "What about you?  Do you want to leave me?  Do you want to give up?"  So, what is my answer?
The enemy will speak words of fear, despair, anxiety, depression, tell me it is all a waste of time.  But I am going to submit to God.  I refuse to listen the voice of the enemy.  I will seek You Lord, my God.  I join with Simon Peter, my response is the same as his, "Lord, to whom shall I go?  You have the words of eternal life.  I have come to believe and to know that You are the Holy One of God"
You have told us how to deal with the enemy: "Submit yourselves, then, to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you"
Lord Jesus, I am not going to leave You
I will continue to walk with You
I will continue to seek Your face
I will keep listening to You
I will praise Your Holy Name
I will trust in Your Father's promise, "No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.  This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me".  Thank You

Wednesday 29th April

Heavenly Father, thank You for inspiration!  I am quite sure that Your Spirit is in 'inspiration' as we are 'inspired'.  King David was inspired to write Psalms and to compose music and since then many other composers and musicians have composed new tunes and sung them based on King David's words, which are based on Your Word and Your Spirit's inspiration
Your Spirit, the Psalms, the songs continue to inspire us today.  They also remind us of Your love, Your care, Your compassion, Your sacrifice, Your wisdom, Your victory, Your strength, Your vision, Your Way, Your Truth, Your Word: Jesus
Thank You that You encourage us, You give us courage when we need it and strength to face the day.  You also let us lie down!  For a while at least before You lift us up on wings like eagles
King David knew this! "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul"
Isaiah knew this!  "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint"
What an inspiration they are!
Thank You that I can ask You to be my vision, my Light, my Wisdom, my Father, my shelter, my high tower... my everything.  Thank You Jesus for coming to earth to be our Good Shepherd.  Thank You that even though there may be days when trouble comes, You will carry us through, lift us up on Your shoulders until we can walk again.  Still be my vision O Ruler of all

Tuesday 28th April

Heavenly Father, at first I was not sure I was going to make it and I know I would never have made it without You.  Thank You that I am making little signs of progress every day
I realise it takes different people different amounts of time to recover.  Some, sadly, never recover; others never really have a chance of recovery, life is snatched away before they have a chance to live.  Some simply don't believe there is anything wrong
Sin is the real killer and I really need Your strength every day to defeat it. At first I didn't believe I had it, then I read, "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness"
It is a lot to take in!  The diagnosis is definite.  I had a second opinion, the Holy Spirit confirmed it, no doubt about it, I had sin; I was sinful
Thank You for the prescription You handed me, "confess and be forgiven".  The road to recovery is a long one and there are many challenges along the Way, but the Truth has set me free.  Thank You for opening my eyes to the Truth; Jesus, You are the Word I need
"Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being".  Thank You for giving me life!  May I be good soil so the seed You have planted in me can grow strong and produce a good crop, "a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown".  Thank You for saving me

Monday 27th April

Heavenly Father, I was wondering about the phrase 'let nature take its course' so I looked it up and found: allow something to happen without trying to control it; "The injury should heal within a few weeks if you let nature take its course"
Thank You that You have built into us the capacity to heal.  The plaster on a cut does not heal it, it merely protects while a scab forms and it heals.  A plaster cast on a broken leg or arm does not heal it, it merely protects it while nature takes its course and the bones knit together.  The common cold comes and goes as the body sends out the antibodies to fight the battle for us; I can't make it happen, it just does, because nature takes its course
Thank You that so often our own Natural Health Service, provided within us by You, enables us to recover over a period of time without needing to do anything.  But some things don't heal or repair without intervention, and so You have provided the National Health Service to care for us; doctors, surgeons, nurses, working to bring us back to health: and what an amazing job they do.  Thank You to each and every one of them
One thing we couldn't fix, and can't fix, is sin in our lives, when human nature takes its course we are sinful.  So You did something we couldn't do, You came into the world as our Supernatural Health Service.  In Your love for us You came to the earth to show us how to live and to pay the price for sin.  Your prescription is free to us all! "Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits"

re Friday prayer: you reminded me of something I've said many, many times. Knowledge without application is worthless. thank you, Derek
