“There are so many reasons to describe God as wonderful!
So many reasons to praise Him with unlimited praise”
(Psalm 48 v 1 The Passion Translation TPT)

Lorraine Lythaby“My Journey has come to an end with East Norfolk Youth for Christ, I will be leaving on the 31st January 2019. I want to thank you all for your support and prayers.  I have grown in my Faith and Bible knowledge over the last year and four months. I have learnt who I am in Christ, more about our Lord and Saviour and going deeper into the Bible.  I feel called to move on to a new phase in my life and my walk with God. I will be taking with me the things I have learnt about myself and the town of Great Yarmouth and the young people I have worked alongside, to set aside retreat days to spend more time with the Lord.  I will miss the young people within the town and the chats we have had. I feel God Has equipped me in many ways” Lorraine

So, we are starting 2019 with another exciting new season at East Norfolk Youth for Christ. Yesterday at the café, we said goodbye to Lorraine who is returning to her previous employer to embark on a new initiative with the young people at the care home. She has been a massive boost to us and will be sorely missed by both the volunteers, trustees and young people. Please pray for her as she steps out in this new role, that she will have plenty of opportunities to share the Jesus she loves with the children and thank God for what He has done with and through her in the town of Great Yarmouth

ENYFC TRUSTEESPlease continue to uphold the trustees at this time of change.  We are continuing to meet, seeking God’s will for the next phase of East Norfolk Youth for Christ and we believe that the work should continue, but it has grown over the last year during Lorraine’s time with us so we will need to recruit more workers. We praise God for the two people He had already prepared, who are investigating coming on board in new roles and we look forward to updating you as soon as we have confirmation of His plans. We are so thankful that we have not had to ask for finances over the last few years as we had an amazing gift from a supporter a few years ago. However, as that is being diminished by our employing of staff and by the expenses of the new office, we are now having to ask once more for your help

If you feel God is prompting you to support us financially, please get in touch or use the following details to donate. Our bank details are HSBC, 81452886, 40-22-34. We are registered with Stewardship (East Norfolk Youth for Christ) if you’d like to give anonymously or if you prefer to use cheques, please make them payable to East Norfolk Youth for Christ and post them to the office address at the bottom of this update. Thank you so much to those who consistently support us in this way. We are truly grateful for your generosity

GYHS 07-2018We had a great time last week with Neil O’Boyle, National Director of Youth for Christ and enjoyed introducing him to the school environment when he visited Great Yarmouth last week. Mr Smith gave us a tour of the school and we observed some of the teaching, giving Neil an insight behind the dramatic headlines of the local media over the last two years. Please continue to pray that the Head Teacher and the Leadership Team will allow The Sense and Stance to visit in March 2019

Youth Café. This continues to be a challenge as well as a joy. Please pray that we will sieze every opportunity to pray with/for the young people here. Thank God for His protection over the young people. Thank God for the blessing of another volunteer who has committed to helping out every week

We had the most refreshing and amazing time with Julia* at THEOS last month. She was the only one who came on this particular Wednesday but it is SO worthwhile having these individual opportunities. As Lorraine discussed with her about who Jesus is for her, Julia* opened up about her worries regarding what she intends to do after leaving school. She was having second thoughts about her long-standing passion for a career in the forces and was feeling very insecure so we prayed with her and talked about asking God to speak to her. This brought about a whole new conversation about how to hear Him and how we “test” what we think He is saying. Please pray for her – she has come such a long way over the last year and a half and is so passionate about knowing Jesus. Pray for courage for her to talk to her friends at school. She asked if we could pray about her friend whose grandfather is really poorly in hospital, then she proceeded to pray out loud for him too! The following week she texted Ali and told her that not only had she applied for a position in the forces but the next working day had been offered an interview. When she came the office the following Tuesday, she was also really excited to report that her friend’s granddad had been discharged from hospital the day after we had prayed for him. Now Julia* is trying to pluck up courage to tell her friend that we prayed and that she believes God helped him get better. She had brought her own deceased granddad’s Bible and proceeded to show us the scriptures he had highlighted throughout. It was really encouraging for her to know that he’d had a relationship with God. She now knows that He has had His hand on her whole family for generations

The following week was another huge blessing as two Year 7 girls came along with Lennon* and got stuck straight into the study of the Good Samaritan parable Lorraine had prepared. The conversation soon evolved into a barrage of questions about all things Jesus, heaven, hell, the Trinity, creation, sin, the fall, demons, ghosts and everything else you can think of; the only thing left out was pre-destination!! Thank the Lord! Here’s just a sample – Did God create Jesus to come as a baby? Why were Mary and Joseph chosen to have Jesus?

THEOS 02-2019Why doesn’t God just make us do good things? Why does Adam disobeying God mean that my mum lost two babies? Why did God give them a tree if they weren’t allowed to have it? If God loves everyone why does he take the ones we love? I believe we came from dinosaurs, they had a sort of dwarf dinosaur that morphed and evolved into a human. Where does your brain go when you die? I love Satan, he’s cute, with his little horns and stuff. Are there 3 Gods; Father God, Son God and Spirit God? How come they don’t all have bodies? Do they have heads then? Where do you go if you don’t go to heaven? I don’t care if I go to hell because I’ll just make new friends there. Wait, will my mum and dad go to hell; cos they don’t believe in God? I believe in ghosts; they’re cute, I have 5 in my house

Please pray that something of what was said in answer to these questions will take root and grow by the Holy Spirit, particularly how much God loves us, and that He sent His precious Son to make things right again between us and Him

With Lorraine’s departure, ETP will be run by Park Baptist Church with occasional help from Ali. Please pray for the church as they try to find volunteers to help with this club. The young people love this smaller group and are feeling confident enough to open up and ask for prayer. We believe it’s important to record the goodness of God and our walk with Him so we can look back and see His faithfulness across the years. We encourage the young people to do this by giving them a brand new Christian journal when they’ve been to Theos, ETP and summer camps. The three young people at ETP were overjoyed to receive their journals and are really looking forward to coming back next week to discuss what God’s been doing in their lives. One of the girls who doesn’t go to church said that praying has really helped her in her life and she is more confident in doing that as a result of this group. She was trying to read her KJV Bible so Pete has given her one that’s easier to read so she can continue her journey of finding Jesus. Hallelujah! She loves writing in her new journal, offloading to God all her worries and stress

Valentine Concert: Every year the Year 10 pupils work hard to improve their Music GCSE grades by organising and delivering a talent show/concert. Head of Music, Mrs Hawker is always grateful for the help we give in enabling and empowering the pupils to design and create decorations which will enhance the atmosphere and the visual impact of the concert. Please pray for Ali today as she works with the pupils to decorate the hall in a very short time after lunch, ready for the concert after school
Wednesday 13th

Pray for the second prospective new trustee we hope to induct onto the Board. Pray for wisdom and peace in the decision; Nigel, Ali, Richard. and Matt

Tuesday 26th
Dinner Hall: Praise God for the member of staff whose son has been really struggling with mental health for two years, then she allowed us the privilege of praying for him and he is now off his medication and is doing really well, having now re-qualified to return to his previous career! Praise God for all He is doing and pray that they will see His hand in this situation. Pray that they will come to know Him as Lord and Saviour

Wednesday 27th
Dinner Hall: Thank God for the privilege of being in here today, to be amongst these beautiful people whom God sent His precious Son to die for. Pray that they will know Jesus
Theos: Pray for Ali as she leads this. Pray that she will “hear” the unasked questions behind the questions – that the young people will hear Jesus and know His love for them, not be put off by others who are sceptical
Thursday 28th
Dinner Hall: Pray for the Senior Leadership Team today; that they will see something different in Ali and want to know why we do what we do
Youth Café: Please just spend time today thanking God for this team: Louise, Michelle, Susan, Sue, Amilcar, Erny, Livvy, and newbie Debbie! They sacrifice so much to come here every Thursday. Sometimes the young people are not the easiest to love, particularly when you’re not used to the way they talk and behave so please pray a blessing over these volunteers today

Thank you for your support, as always and we thank God for all these opportunities to be His light in the communities around us

Alison, Nigel, Richard, Matt (Trustees)
