Sunday 28th November

Heavenly Father, yesterday I was asking, praying, that people may knock at my door, at the door of any Christian, and ask to meet Jesus. The Good News is that Jesus goes knocking Himself! He said, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me"

The only reason I can ask that people may find Jesus in me is because He came knocking at my door and when I opened it He came in and stayed. And He is still knocking on doors today! Unlike children who knock and run away, Jesus waits for someone to answer. If there is no answer today, He will try again tomorrow

One of the first virtues listed as the properties of love is patience, and later perseverance. "Love is patient and kind. It does not envy or boast, it is not proud, nor does it dishonour others, it is not self-seeking or easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails"

The fruit of the Spirit is of course similar! "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control"

Lord Jesus, thank You for knocking at my door. Thank You for taking up residence

Father, thank You for coming and making Your home here, in the hearts of Your people. By Your Spirit, through Your people, draw more and more people to You today
Amen

Saturday 27th November

Heavenly Father, if I want to find someone I might ask around to find his or her address. I was wondering how people would answer if that question were to be asked about Jesus: "Where does Jesus live?" Or indeed if the question were asked about You: "Where does God live?"

Would the answer be, "In Heaven." Would the answer be, "In church" or perhaps the answer could be, "In the Temple in Jerusalem."

What an amazing thing it is that the answer could be my name! "God and Jesus live in Derek Mill. You will find them there". And the name given could be any of Your children, any Christian, anywhere in the world, everywhere in the world. If I were making this claim because of my own goodness, power, strength or importance it would be quite ridiculous, and people may well ask, "Who does he think he is?"

But the Truth is that Jesus said this would be His and His Father's address: Jesus said, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them"

Lord Jesus, thank You for this incredible promise, that You would ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit: "If you love me keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives in you and will be in you"

May people come knocking at my door and ask to meet You. Amazing!
Amen

Friday 26th November

Heavenly Father, thank You for all the anonymous people who are blood donors. I have never had a blood transfusion but my wife has had many in her battle against leukaemia and she is alive today because of those transfusions and the bone marrow transplant she had about 7 years ago. We are both so thankful that we been given the extra time together here on earth

We are also both thankful, and even more so, for the blood of Jesus which has not only given us extra time on earth but has given us eternal life!

Jesus is the greatest, most amazing blood donor ever!! His blood has paid the price for our sin and for all sin for all time. "This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live out the Truth. But if we walk in the Light, as He is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin"

Lord Jesus, Light of the World, You stepped down into the darkness of this world bringing Your Light into our lives. Thank You that the Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.

Thank You for the cross, where You shed Your blood so that we might be forgiven, our debt, our sin paid for, in full by Your blood donation

The Bible makes the Way quite clear: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved"
Amen

Thursday 25th November

Heavenly Father, help me to stay on track. It is so easy to get sidetracked and end up stuck in a siding with a buffer in front of me and no way forward

The only way to  get back on track is to go back and find the mainline again, reverse back to the point, or 'points' where I went off track and start my journey again. Being stuck in a siding can be like being in a dead end. Being on track means I can keep moving forward

Forgive me for the times I get sidetracked, help me to see the points, the place I make the decision which way I want to go, and to make sure I stay on track. I know the enemy will try to steer me away from Your Way so help me to spot the lies he speaks, as well as my own selfish desires, and stay with You

The Bible tells us, "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the Truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness"

Holy Spirit, help me to keep my eyes on the track ahead. Help me to see the Way You are leading me. Help me to ignore all distractions (dis-track-shunts) and stay on the mainline. Strengthen my resolve so I am not shunted by the enemy

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. What is the main thing? The Westminster Catechism states as point 1: "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever"

Thank You for getting me back on track when I get sidetracked. To Your glory, Lord Jesus be my Driver, Holy Spirit be my Guard. Thank You
Amen

Wednesday 24th November

Heavenly Father, I can look back on so many blessings which You have provided. I know I don't deserve them but You are good and your love endures forever

I cannot assume You will bless me today and into the future but I know Your heart is good and it is Your desire to bless Your children, just as it is my desire to bless my children and my grandchildren

There have been struggles in the past, indeed battles, but You have sustained us. There will no doubt be further battles ahead, but experience shows us that You will be with us throughout it all

Thank You for Your unending love, Your unwavering support, Your commitment to us at all times and in all places

Lord Jesus, help me to remain faithful to You, to live my life in the Way You lead me. I know I fail, but Your love remains constant and Your forgiveness enables me to start again. I know Your way is higher than mine, Your thoughts too. Help me to think like You, so it follows I will act like You; as a man thinks so he is. Renew my mind, rewrite the pathways in my brain!

I read today, "In the Bible the heart is considered the seat of life or strength. Hence, it means mind, soul, spirit, or one's entire emotional nature and understanding. The heart is the 'organ' that is said to have the ability to reason, question, meditate, motivate, and think"

Lord Jesus, I bring all of this to You, lay my heart, my whole being before You. Help me to reason, question, meditate, think and be motivated like You. A big ask, but You are a great God
Amen

Tuesday 23rd November

Heavenly Father, thank You that we can approach Your throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need

Thank You that You have chosen to redeem us, to forgive and restore us

Thank You that we are Your children, chosen to be holy and blameless because of what Jesus has done for us. This is to Your glory!

Lord, I know there are many relationships that are broken, between husband and wife, parents and children, between siblings, and of course the relationship between people and You. Your Way is a one of reconciliation, of restoration, of recovery, of redemption; at the heart of all this is forgiveness

Sometimes we say of a relationship that has broken down, that we cannot see being restored, "That ship has sailed!" We believe that reconciliation is impossible so we give up. But we must remember that Jesus can be sleeping in the boat, or He can approach the boat walking on the water. He can calm any storm or immediately bring the boat to shore

I can count the number of things I have done wrong on the fingers of one hand... as long as I start counting again at the start of each and every hour

I am constantly, and eternally, grateful that I have relationships that have survived and grown, particularly in my closest family, and this is entirely down to Your forgiveness, goodness and mercy, and their forgiveness for my many failings; without it, that ship would have sailed

To You be all glory, honour and praise. Thank You
Amen

Monday 22nd November

Heavenly Father, thank You for this day. I do not know what this day may hold but I know I can deal with whatever comes because You are with me

Over the last couple of years we have had to deal with many things online or on the phone as meeting face-to-face has been difficult due to the pandemic. We have often been asked to confirm our identity by giving our date of birth, our postcode, and address, or our NHS number. Sometimes we have a question we have previously answered which we are asked to answer again, our mother's maiden name for example

Jesus asked the disciples, "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter replied, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God". Lord Jesus, thank You for this declaration, but it did not prove who You were and are

The people of the day asked You, "What sign can You show us to prove Your authority to do all this?" (You had just driven the money lenders out of the temple). You answered "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it up in three days"

The Temple You were talking about was Your body. The proof of Your identity came later, in Your resurrection. You said, "I AM the Resurrection and the Life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die"

Sometimes we just need to trust You, even when a road seems impossible to pass, You will make a Way, like You did through the Red Sea, and like You did through death

Thank You that we have all the proof we need
Amen
