Lowestoft Son-Rise service featured on BBC radio

Christians from Lowestoft churches will be gathering at Britain’s most easterly point at sunrise on Easter Sunday to celebrate Christ’s resurrection, and the event will be featured on BBC national radio. Tony Rothe reports

The united Easter service is an annual event organised by Christians Together in Lowestoft and District. The early risers will gather at 5.45am at Ness Point in Lowestoft, pictured above, which is the most easterly point on the UK mainland, in time to see the sun rise. Anyone is welcome to join them

The service is written by Christians of different denominations in the town and readers are also from different churches. The Salvation Army Band will play, and this year the message is given by Rev Peter Rayson from South Lowestoft Methodist Church. Refreshments afterwards will be at Christ Church from 6.20am

She has been asked to record a short piece standing on Ness Point about the Christians Together Easter Sunrise Service and read out a prayer. It will be broadcast during the Easter Sunday Service with Archbishop Welby on BBC Radio 4 at 8.10am after the news and on all the local BBC radio stations throughout England

Mary says “Every Easter we hold a United Easter Sunrise Service. This year we gather at 5.45 am to celebrate the Risen Lord! I look forward to it every year, praying and celebrating with Christians from the town and further afield”

Christians Together are also holding a Walk of Witness on Good Friday, starting at 10.15 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Gordon Road and walking on through the town to the URC Church for the outside drama and service.  On Easter Saturday at 4pm in the Stella Maris Hall there will be the blessing of the Easter Baskets, a tradition of the Polish and Ukrainian Christians
