John 3:16              (The Message) This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him

I recently read a very sad but heroic story about a young couple. Kerstin was from Switzerland and Tyson was an American. They fell in love and it wasn’t long before they were married. They so adored each other that watching them interact was like imagining a scene out of a romantic novel

Soon Kerstin was pregnant with their first child and their life took on an ecstatic joy. They were on top of the world, and friends, family and church members were pulled along with them in the wake of their elation

Then suddenly something terrible happened. Four months into Kerstin’s pregnancy, she returned from the doctor with a serious report of stage four cancer that had spread through most of her body. She was rushed to a specialist, who confirmed her condition. The doctors felt confident they could save her life if she began treatment immediately, but explained that the chemotherapy would kill the baby. The choice was clear – either abort the baby and live, or carry the child to the full term and die

Kerstin didn’t hesitate; her mind was made up. She would give up her life to save her child if necessary. Five months later, a healthy baby boy named Kalani came into the world to two excited parent. Kalani means ‘heavenly,’ and he was certainly a gift from God. In the meantime their church prayed, fasted and warred over her condition

But 10 months after the heavenly child was born, his earthly mother was gone!

Most people spend their existence trying to save their life, wondering why they are never really fulfilled. Maybe Mick Jagger said it best when he sang, ‘I can’t get no satisfaction.’ But Kerstin had the courage to lay down her life so that someone else would live

As Easter approaches, we are reminded of the greatest love story ever told. The bible verse John 3:16 reveals the extent of God’s love for us

How do we respond ?

It would be tragic if Kalani went on to waste his life forgetting the love and sacrifice of his mother. In the same way, God wants our response to be one of accepting His love and spending the rest of our lives living in the good of that love.

I encourage you to find out more!
