The other day we had to finish our Alpha course slightly early because some people wanted to listen to the Norwich vs Middlesbrough Wembley game that was just about to start

I closed the meeting with a prayer that included a request that Norwich would get some divine assistance during the next 90 minutes. It seems to have worked!

dove leftAt the time, the words of my prayer felt a bit presumptuous. How could I ask the Lord to bless Norwich when the needs of Middlesbrough might be more pressing?  I didn’t believe for a moment that God would take sides in a football match. It was just a request for a blessing

For Norwich and wider Norfolk, getting back into the premier league promises financial rewards to our local economy, to the tune of around £130m

I believe that Christians are called to be a blessing, and to ask blessing into wherever we are and whatever situations we find ourselves in

Dove rightIn the Creation story and in the whole pattern of the Scriptures, there is a flow of receiving what is good from God and extending it to others. You and I are blessed by God to be a blessing and as we carry the light of God we are also called to carry that light into all places, no matter how dark

The prophet Abraham was told by God that he would be a blessing; “And I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing” (Geneses 12)

Like Abraham, you and I are blessed by God.  He has brought us into a right and restored relationship with Him.  He has reconciled us to Himself through the cross of Christ (Colossians 1:20) so now, we are to go and be a blessing to others

Was I being presumptuous? I don’t think so…well done Norwich!
