I Will Come Again
The promise of Jesus’ return is as assured as the assurance that the sun will rise in the morning, however “no man knows the day nor the hour” of His return (Matthew 24:36). What we do know is that shortly before Jesus returns, the world will be in great turmoil and based upon the current events, it fair to say, His return is very near! Matthew 24:7 and Luke 21:10-11 describes events throughout the world – “wars; rumours of war; famines; plagues/pestilences, and earthquakes in various places” amongst many other things! 2 Timothy 3:1-5 describes the mindset of mankind just before Jesus returns – “very wicked”
One can view this as if there is a huge storm brewing; this now reminds me of the well know story in the Bible of a huge storm that arose whilst the disciples (and Jesus) were sailing across the lake near Galilee. Found in Mark 4:35-41 and Luke 8:22-25
Jesus had been teaching all day and was very tired. As evening drew in, He said to His disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake”. Mark 4:35 As the team set sail, Jesus fell sound asleep at the back of the boat. Allow me at this point to bring to your attention: - the disciples that were sailing the boat, were experience fishermen. They were used to being out at sea, they had been in storms before, they had fought rough seas. They had throughout the years been taught to rely on their own skills
However, this storm was one like they had never experienced! These highly experience fishermen realised that they were losing the battle, there was only so much that they could do, and now they realised that all they own efforts was of no good! They were sure to die. In desperation they awoke Jesus and it was at this point that they were completely amazed!
Jesus, with one divine command said, “Silence! Be still!” and the Bible records that immediately the wind stopped blowing and the sea became calm!
There is a very important lesson from this story that we can learn, as we live in these times of storm like turmoil, and that is: - don’t rely on your own skills to get you through! Don’t wait until it’s almost to late, to call upon Jesus, for help! Now is the time to call upon The Holy Name of Jesus. Now is the time to realise that Jesus is “the only way, the truth, and the life. No one come to the Father except through Jesus” John 14:6
