Please don’t blame God!

I was speaking to someone recently who was going through a rough time when they said something that I have often heard other people say, that is that God must be punishing them for something they had done maybe earlier in their life, although they couldn’t always say what

dove leftI have heard and read similar comments regarding the pandemic, that is, that God is judging us and punishing us for our sinful behaviour. The Apostle Paul wrote in the Bible that...”in the last days people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God”. There is no doubt that is very much a description of our world today, in fact we could easily add to that list ourselves

So, is God punishing us and bringing this disease on us? Personally, I don’t believe He is. Whenever we read of Jesus in the Bible he always healed the sick. Not once did He say a person had their sickness because God was punishing them or trying to teach them a lesson. No, He laid His hands on the sick and healed them all. In fact Acts 10:38 says “Jesus went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him”

Dove rightMake no mistake about it, the Bible makes it clear that we will all stand before God one day and face judgement. However, God is a God of grace and love. He proved that by sending Jesus into the world to demonstrate His love and make a way for mankind to be reconciled to Himself. Jesus went to the cross and there took our sin and the punishment we deserve for our sin so that all those who put their faith in Him will receive forgiveness and eternal life

I believe what God would say in these trying times are echoed in the words of Jesus ...”Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”

So, whatever you may be going through right now, don’t blame God. Call out to Him for His help, He is waiting for you
