DEREK MILL WITH KATIEDerek Mill
Worship Leader, All Saints Church, Belton

My internet failed a few days ago so I rang my service provider who said they could see there was a fault and they would send out an engineer. If he or she needed access to the house I would certainly have asked for their ID; their identification document. ID has become so important these days. We are asked for ID as we enter and leave the country. We may be asked for ID proof of our age; not a problem I have. Computers, phones, all sorts of technology require passwords that are proof of identity; some will use a fingerprint as an identity check

dove leftWhen I think about the world that we live in and how it is made I can’t help but think that there must be a God. The Bible says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands” (Psalm 19:1). Everywhere I look I see God’s fingerprints! The way a seed grows into a plant, a beautiful flower, or produces a crop says to me that this is no accident. The way certain creatures return every year to the same breeding ground cries out to me that there is thought behind this creation. This “Perfect Planet”, the moon, the sun and the stars just say to me “This is not just coincidence”

God has left His fingerprints all over the universe. He has given us His ID – Intelligent Design. “For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

Dove rightBut God knew that our finite minds could not fathom an infinite God so He showed Himself in a Way we could understand Him; He came and lived among us. I can understand God because Jesus shows me exactly what He is like. When I look at Jesus I see all the qualities that make God who He is. "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being"

Jesus shows me how God thinks and acts, how God loves us. Jesus had God’s very nature, but He did not consider equality with God as something to be used to His own advantage. Instead He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death – even death on a cross. I wonder, will I ever fully understand and appreciate what God has done for us?
