Sunday 22nd October was an exciting day in the life of St Mary Magdalene
Not only did we welcome the new Bishop of Thetford, The Rt Revd Ian Bishop (yes, that does mean he’s Bishop Bishop!) to Gorleston, but we also celebrated the faith of 12 people; six of whom were under 18 and another two in their twenties
The afternoon began with the baptism of Hazel, who is 15, on Gorleston Beach. About 50 people gathered as Bishop Ian and I joined Hazel in the sea to baptise her. Although the sea was cold, the atmosphere certainly wasn’t. Hazel reported that she “felt the Lord’s presence in the sunshine as we were worshipping” and expressed her thanks to the crowd from local churches who came to support her
The afternoon then continued back at St Mary Magdalene Church, where Hazel, along with 11 other individuals (half of whom were under 18), were confirmed by Bishop Ian, publicly declaring their faith
