I have many happy memories of, as a child, being taken with my parents to Caister Castle. As well as the Tree Top Walk and the chance to climb up the ruins of the old castle itself, we would go into the Caister Castle Car Collection. (the 4Cs makes it quite a mouthful to say!) I marvelled at all the old cars on display which were kept in fantastic condition especially the vintage cars from the start of the 20th century. But one car that always puzzled me was an early Ford Fiesta. Bearing in mind that when I was a child the car was almost brand new, and I asked why this vehicle was here in the first place alongside all the other historical cars
It took my many further visits when I was older to realise its significance and importance. There was nothing special about the car itself that made it any different or better than a normal 1970 Ford Fiesta; but the sign next to it made it clear why it was proudly on display. The chassis number was either 00000001 or very close to it, and the collection could boast that they had one of the very first Fiesta cars that came off the production line!
Fiestas are still popular cars today and by now millions have rolled off the production line. From the first model (the prototype) has come other successful copies. In a similar vein St Paul reminds the church in Corinth about the Easter hope we have in the Resurrection. “But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die; so in Christ all will be made alive. Each in their own turn: Christ the first-fruits (prototype) then those who belong to him” (I Corinthians 15: 20 – 23)
So for me the joy and assurance we have in the Easter message is that we too will also be raised to new life from death! Just as Christ was raised that first Easter, we will also be raised and have everlasting life when we accept his promise to us
God Bless
