Do not lean on your own understanding. Part of Proverbs 3:5

But we do. Don’t we?  Even as Christians we can still have a tendency to lean on our own understanding in making choices and decisions.  I know I did, it took me many years to finally let go and let God take full control of my daily plans and decision making. Perhaps you too can relate to this?

dove leftAs  I look back I recall how I used to have to work out and plan my days, my weeks ahead;  be this travel; finances;  work; and my time and if anything unplanned or unscheduled came along it would  completely throw me because  I wouldn’t  be in control of the situation. Looking back now I don’t think it was an obsession; but rather a fear of the unknown which would cause me a great deal of worry, stress, and anxiety

It  got to a point where I  made the  decision I had to ask  God to  help me  and  I should be trusting in Him completely with my life and my  plans. After all; this is what faith is about: trusting God with the little things and the big things in our lives

Gradually, and with much prayer I released my control over decision making and situations. In doing this I found the stress and burden of sorting everything out begin to disappear and the weight being taken off me and I found a new inner peace and freedom

Dove right“Do not lean on your own understanding”   is only a part of this verse in Proverbs 3: 5-6. The full verse actually says. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths”

Jeremiah 29:11 says
“For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”

How wonderful to know that if we let God take control and put our full trust in Him; He will manage our lives for us

If you are struggling today with letting go of your own understanding. God invites you to trust Him with your life. So why not give it a go?
