Stalham Baptist Church opens Memories Cafe

The Baptist church in Stalham has launched a new cafe for people with memory loss and their carers

Stalham has a new Memories Café which meets in the newly refurbished School Room at Stalham Baptist Church. It is open on the last Monday of the month between 10:00-12:00 and aims to provide a welcoming social space where people with memory loss, and their carers, can gather to have a cuppa, enjoy a range of activities, make new friends and enhance their quality of life

Organiser, Diana Gordon, says “We had been recruiting volunteers for several weeks before our first meeting, held on the 24th June. It was wonderful to have people from the church, and the wider community, wanting to help with such an important project in this very challenging area of care”

Apart from the opportunity to meet others who face similar problems, activities include games, music, jigsaws, painting, knitting, and baking. There are also “memory books” which can prompt those attending to reminisce

Over the summer the café will open on 29th July, 26th August and 30th September, but Diana says “We are looking forwards to expanding the café by offering more sessions. If you know of anyone who is in need of support then please do share the dates with them and/or their carers. All our volunteers will receive a check with the Disclosure & Barring Service and attending training will be required”

If you would like further information or wish to apply to be a volunteer you should call Diana on 07951 949128 or email her at secretary@stalhambaptist.org.uk
