Bradwell group create embroidered prayer fish
An embroidery group at St Nicholas Church has created an installation of hundreds of prayer-carrying fish
The shoal of over 300 embroidered fish has been created over the last three months by the embroidery group at St Nicholas Church in Bradwell, near Great Yarmouth. Children from Homefield Primary School and the local Cub Scout group also got involved with making fish which could then be embellished and embroidered
Rev. Steve Deall, Vicar of St Nicholas Church explains: “some are sparkly, some rustic, but each one as unique as a fingerprint, as individual as we are, although somehow connected”
“These aren’t your run-of-the-mill fishes. Each little swimmer carries a secret—a prayer tucked inside. The makers poured their hearts into these aquatic wonders, thanking God or asking for a sprinkle of divine goodness”
The project was inspired by Jesus’s promise: “I will make you fishers of men” in the gospel of Matthew
The church will be open on weekday mornings all through August between 9 and 12, except Thursdays so that people can view the display
