Celebrating Birth

We are celebrating the birth of a grandson, which somehow, despite it being a normal family event, has brought exceptional joy and outpouring of love. At Thursford before Christmas one of their carols sung with such feeling, enthusiasm and urgency was “go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!”

My wife broadcast Edward’s birth just like that. A birth is exciting and a wonderful event however the birth of Jesus was truly exceptional and miraculous, foretold by prophets, and angels, heralded by angels to the shepherds, greeted by the wise men. A historical event when the equivalent of our electoral role was being compiled and details of the current rulers of the area were given and now our very year date is determined by the year of Jesus birth

dove leftAnother carol starts with the words “Christians awake, salute the happy morn, whereon the Saviour of the world was born”

The Thursford singers sang it as a wakeup call, a must do instruction. Christians should be constantly reminded to broadcast that the Saviour of the world has been born and more importantly that although the world of that day rejected him and sentenced him to death, he is alive today

The message of the next Christian calendar event of Easter is not just the crucifixion but the truth of life after death – the resurrection of Jesus who is the first born from the dead

This is the message we should be shouting over the hills and far away that Jesus Christ is alive today and He really is the Saviour of the world. This may seem an impossible claim but Jesus stated that his kingdom was not just related to this world but the next

In the days of his birth all mankind recognised a belief in God or gods. Today the majority of the world’s population still holds that belief, but this country’s population is at the very best indifferent to the things of God. Individuals’ families however still seem to seek comfort in bereavement by the hope of meeting again in the afterlife

Now is the time to celebrate Jesus, the one born into this world as saviour who reconciles us with God who created us for a truly miraculous spiritual rebirth relationship with Himself not just on this earth but throughout an eternity in heaven

Go, shout it, Glory to God
