The United Kingdom was once considered a Christian country. Today, I no longer believe that to be the case. Fewer and fewer people identify as Christian and, while our laws may have been founded on Judeo-Christian principles, our behaviour as a society no longer reflects those truths. As a nation, I fear we have lost our moral compass
We have witnessed a societal shift where behaviours once deemed unacceptable became tolerated, then accepted, then celebrated, and now even promoted. It has become nearly impossible to watch a TV drama or movie—even those rated suitable for younger audiences—without encountering bad language or explicit content
Many argue that society has 'moved on' from traditional values. To this, I would respond that we have not moved on but have moved away—away from how God calls us to live. Today, many people embrace and promote lifestyles that contradict Christian teaching, contributing, I believe, to the deep fractures we now see in our society
Our land is in desperate need of healing. Uncertainty and fear are everywhere. Mental health issues are rising sharply among young people, while older generations worry about heating their homes or receiving adequate care in illness. Pessimism permeates so many lives, with some even saying they don’t want to bring children into a world like this
This is not a new challenge. God spoke to Solomon about similar circumstances when He said:
“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
The Bible also reminds us:
“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people” (Proverbs 14:34)
God loves this nation, but He hates sin. If we want His blessing and healing, we need to turn back to Him—not just as a nation, but as individuals. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6)
This is the invitation: to turn from sin, place your faith in Jesus Christ, and allow Him to forgive your sins and restore your relationship with God. The question is, will you respond? Will you call on Him today—not only for yourself but also for this nation that it, too, will turn back to God?
