Bishop commends Gorleston church on 25 years
Bishop Ian congratulated Cliff Park Community Church, saying that its survival for a quarter of a century was "something extraordinary"
A service of celebration, held at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy on Kennedy Avenue, Gorleston, where the church meets, commemorated the Cliff Park Community Church becoming an LEP (Local Ecumenical Partnership) 25 years ago, uniting members of the local Baptist and Anglican churches for outreach on the Cliff Park estate
The Right Reverend Ian Bishop, Bishop of Thetford was present and congratulated the church for making it to a quarter century: “Twenty five years for any church plant, let me tell you, is a very significant milestone. There are not that many church plants that have lasted twenty five years anywhere in the country. The fact is, that you have done a remarkable work. There is something extraordinary that has happened here”
Bishop Ian gave a talk from Luke chapter 3, on the baptism of Jesus and concluded by saying: “I want to pray that whatever the future is for you, the church; wherever God may lead us: that you would know that baptism again of His Spirit and be fully alive to His presence here: in you, through you, in this community. He is here”
The service also gave opportunity for members past and present to share memories and testimonies about God’s work through Cliff Park Community Church. Photos were displayed on noticeboards around the room and messages of support were shown on the screen at the beginning of the service. A video message was also played from David Mayne, Regional Minister Team Leader for the Eastern Baptist Association, who was unable to be present on the day
Cliff Park Community Church was planted from Gorleston Baptist Church and the Anglican parish church of St Andrew’s, and was dubbed “a new church for a new millennium” when it launched at the very end of 1999.
