New team members at Norfolk retreat house

Quiet Waters Christian Retreat Centre in Bungay added three new team members to support the work of the house last year as it looks forward to the future

The house celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023 and is showing no signs of slowing down with a full programme of creative cabin workshops and residential retreats planned for 2025

Paul and Kim joined Quiet Waters at the end of June 2024. They had very little time to familiarise themselves before Quiet Waters returned to two team members. They settled into their garden apartment and enjoyed waking up to the beautiful nature surrounding the house

They had previously spent ten years overseas in South Korea as missionaries teaching English as a 2nd language and a cross-cultural understanding. After returning to the UK in 2019 they worked for one-year screening missionary candidates for WEC. And the recently, four years living on a narrowboat, cruising the canals of the UK working as Waterway Chaplains

Kim said: “We are still getting to know the other team members; Charlotte in the house and Fiona out in the garden, both who have been gracious in helping us get used to the rhythms of Quiet Waters. We enjoy the volunteer gardeners arriving each week as they not only plant produce but ask what we would like picking

“The guests have really been blessed to know the origins of the items on their plate. We also delighted our guests by serving them fresh figs from the walled garden”

Dawn spent the last 12 years as a nurse, working with people with learning disabilities and mental health issues. This was an extremely rewarding job, albeit stressful at times. She has a lot of fond and happy memories of the people she met whilst working as a nurse

Dawn said: “I started volunteering at Quiet Waters in September 2024 and soon felt at home with the people and in the peaceful surroundings. It didn’t take too long to move from volunteering to becoming a permanent member of the team. I’ve been getting stuck in cooking, cleaning and sitting down eating lots of delicious home-cooked meals with our wonderful guests

“Now, I am looking forward to the new adventure of being part of the Quiet Waters Community,” said Dawn

Quiet Waters is looking for one more single female to join the team full-time in the house and live in the cottage alongside Dawn. It is a 3-bed cottage so there is adequate space someone who has a calling for this ministry of hospitality
