Catfield Church raising money for inside toilet
All Saints Church in Catfield, near Stalham, is raising funds for vital refurbishment including an inside toilet and water supply to enable them to increase their accessibility and community outreach
The historic All Saints Church in the Broadland village of Catfield, near Stalham has launched a critical refurbishment campaign to improve ease of access and expand its offer and appeal to the local community. The 250-year-old church currently faces significant challenges, including inadequate heating, limited water facilities, and the absence of proper toilet facilities
Presently, churchgoers must rely on an unsuitable shed-based toilet, which has deterred some members from attending services. The church also lacks indoor water access, with only an outdated kitchen area available for use. These limitations have severely restricted the church's ability to host events and community activities
As part of its ongoing fundraising, the church will host an Old Time Music Hall event on Saturday April 5, at Catfield Village Hall. Attendees can expect a lively evening of music, laughter, and singalongs reminiscent of traditional music hall performances, with a few modern twists. Tickets are priced at £10, which includes refreshments and a lucky seat number prize
The planned refurbishment, estimated to cost approximately £250,000, aims to transform the church into a welcoming, fully accessible hub for the community. Planned upgrades include new toilet facilities, improved heating, and enhanced kitchen amenities. The church hopes these changes will allow them to host mother and toddler groups, music events, and other community gatherings to engage residents of all ages
To date, the church has raised around £20,000 towards its goal. Fundraising efforts have included events such as ceilidhs, Christmas fayres, and themed exhibitions showcasing Norfolk's rich history and dialect
