I am so thankful that winter is over and spring has finally sprung! I love the lighter evenings, warmer temperatures and seeing nature waking up from its winter slumber. Spring truly is my favourite part of the year!
What I love most about spring is how the landscape transforms - the barren trees now have blossoms and leaves on them, and we admire a gradual display of beauty as the first snowdrops appear then crocuses, then daffodils and bluebells. And then finally - the rhododendrons in all their splendour!
Truly Nature is ‘God’s second book’, as by beholding its beauty, our minds turn to the Creator God who made it all.
As the Psalmist says:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1, NIV)
And indeed, so many people, often secular scientists, started believing in God through examining the complexity of His creation. They came to the conclusion that in the same way as a beautiful building has its architect, this Universe also has its Designer who made it
One of those scientists is a Swedish physicist Krister Renard. He dismissed God at a young age, believing science was the key to understanding reality. However in his pursuit of knowledge, he came to see that the universe demanded a greater explanation, eventually believing in God. Renard says:
“It was science that drew me to God because I realised that there must be something behind everything. And that was the same for Einstein. I mean, he never became a Christian as far as I know, but he always believed that there was an intelligence, a superior intelligence behind the universe, because this fantastic universe cannot be just randomness, right?”*
What can we take from this for our lives today? Someone else once said:
“When I look at God’s beautiful creation, I am reminded that since He is powerful enough to do that, I can trust Him with my life as well”
It is my prayer that as we behold and admire God’s creative works, we come to love and trust Him more and more each day
