Gorleston church serves hundreds of pancakes
Families from across Gorleston gathered this week for a lively Pancake Party at St Mary Magdalene Church, where volunteers cooked and served almost 500 pancakes during a fun-filled afternoon for the local community
The church and church hall were buzzing with activity as children, parents and grandparents enjoyed not only stacks of freshly made pancakes, but a range of games and crafts. Highlights included a pancake tossing competition, lively pancake races, and hands-on craft activities — including a creative session provided by local arts’ organisation Freshly Greated
Tables were set out for families to sit together and enjoy time with one another, while a steady stream of pancakes came from the kitchen thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers mixing batter, cooking, serving and clearing up throughout the afternoon
Revd Matthew Price, Vicar of St Mary Magdalene Church, said:
“It was wonderful to see so many families enjoying time together. The laughter during the pancake races and tossing competition was brilliant. As a church, we believe community really matters — creating spaces where people feel welcomed, valued and connected is at the heart of what we do. We’re so grateful to our volunteers and to Freshly Greated for helping make it such a special afternoon”
The event was open to all and welcomed people of all ages from across the neighbourhood, continuing the church’s commitment to providing accessible, family-friendly activities for the local area. St Mary Magdalene regularly hosts community events and groups in Gorleston, helping to create opportunities for connection, friendship and support for all ages
