Plea to help give blind people a great Christmas

A plea has gone out to Norfolk Christians to help give blind and partially sighted people a great Christmas at a Torch Trust house party

Many of those with sight loss live alone with nowhere to go at Christmas time, writes Dorothy Read.

 

As part of their aim to provide friendship and support for lonely blind people, for many years the Christian charity Torch Trust for the Blind have run a five-day Christmas house party at their Holiday and Retreat Centre in Sussex.

Every year it is always heavily overbooked and this year Torch have been offered the use of the High Leigh Christian Conference Centre in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire to enable them to cater for the demand.  Over 20 blind and partially sighted people have already booked along with a dozen or so sighted helpers. To enable them to accept more bookings, Torch need more sighted helpers and are asking for willing hands. Helpers should be in sympathy with the Christian objectives of the Torch Trust for the Blind and be self supporting.

 

So if your Christmas plans are uncertain or you would like to find out more about the practical caring work of the Torch Trust at first hand, consider helping give a wonderful Christmas to a group of otherwise lonely people this year.
