Help a child at Christmas

Smile Shoebox Appeal 2011

People across the Borough are being asked to Christmas all wrapped up in a shoebox to help youngsters in other countries

Decorated boxes filled with sweets, toys, and toiletries are sent from Great Yarmouth via a national aid charity Smile all over the world to children in orphanages, caught up in poverty, or natural disaster

This year’s appeal will run from Monday 14^th November until Friday 25^th November

Local organiser, David Minister, said he hoped to exceed last year’s donation total of 1000 boxes, the recession impacting on what people were able to give “We are very lucky in Yarmouth” he said “we get everything for free, even the lorry, driver, and diesel so every penny goes to the good cause. This year, we already have a lot more people involved” Last year boxes were sent to Europe, Africa, and even Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake

Park Baptist Church and local businesses supply premises, transport, and storage for free

Shoeboxes are a gift that anyone can give, they are gifts filled with love, sent to a child less fortunate than ourselves in poverty stricken countries in the developing world

Every penny and all aid (we take aid such as baby clothes, sewing machines, wool, needles etc) we collect in Great Yarmouth, is sent to help these children, this is made possible with the generosity of Park Baptist Church and local businesses, who supply premises, transport and storage for free

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at Chatterteria cafe at 86 Middle Market Road, Great Yarmouth, NR30 2DT or they can be picked up by prior arrangement by ringing David Minister on the number below
