Norwich Sheriff issues Sleep Easy challenge

The Sheriff of Norwich, William Armstrong, has challenged individuals, groups of friends and businesses to join him sleeping out under the stars on Saturday March 7, 2015, in support of YMCA Norfolk’s sixth annual Sleep Easy event

Taking place at the Norwich High School for Girls, participants are asked to brave the cold, sleep in a cardboard box for one night and get sponsored for their efforts

Not only will it be a challenging and eye-opening experience, but an evening of fun and activities are arranged before you get to sleep under the stars

Sheriff of Norwich, William Armstrong, said: “The fact that there are young people homeless in Norwich - seemingly one of the most prosperous cities in one of the richest countries in the world - should be a matter of deep shame to all of us

“The right to a home is one of the most basic of human rights and in a compassionate and responsible society no one should be subject to the indignity and deprivation of having nowhere to sleep

“I am pleased and privileged to be taking part in the YMCA Norfolk Sleep Easy which will help to raise awareness of this issue and highlight the need for all of us to do more to help the homeless. This is not just a matter of charity; it is a matter of justice"

YMCA Norfolk Communications Manager, Susie Knights, said: “As well as making a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable young people locally, Sleep Easy can be a great opportunity to challenge yourself, have fun, build your team, meet corporate social responsibility targets and raise your profile”

Date: 7pm, Saturday 7th March 7 to 7am Sunday March 8, 2015
