Church's warning to save for Christmas
A local church is urging people to start saving for the festive season as today marks 100 days until Christmas
Park Baptist Church will be hosting free money management sessions for anyone who wants to gain control of their finances
“Our campaign is called Christmas Without Credit because we know a lot of people take out loans or rely on credit cards to afford presents and food. We want to give people the know-how to do it differently,” said Sandra Grey, who runs the CAP Money Course
“Thanks to training from debt charity Christians Against Poverty, we run sessions to help people to budget and plan ahead, even if they have a small income”
“It takes all the guess work out of your finances and will give you not just a Happy Christmas in 100 days time, it will take away the New Year stress too”
Christians Against Poverty is the largest supplier of face-to-face adult money education courses in the UK with hundreds of sessions expected in the months before Christmas
The course is ideal for people of all age groups and requires no special skills except a desire to positively manage the household’s finances
Some estimates suggest British households spend as much as £800 on Christmas yet around half of purchases are made on credit, putting them at risk should their circumstances change in the New Year
Sandra said: “September 16 gives us a real opportunity to start putting a little away each week. For instance, just five pounds saved every week will give you a boost of £70 by Christmas week. Saving is much more satisfying than borrowing and cheaper in the long run because you’re not paying any interest”
The next CAP Money Course begins at
Park Baptist Church
14A Crown Road
Great Yarmouth
NR30 2JN
on
Wednesday, 7th October
